That photo is very telling. There's certainly something very wrong with that wrist, sir! I translated the website, and found this pretty funny. "The good news: It's winter ..." I guess that's one way to look at it, heh.

hehe that last word is actually "winter stop" -it means the time when they stop playing outdoor sports for the winter... i.e. the web site didn't need me anyway!

OH HOLY HELL, those rods are IN your Thumb??? I almost fainted!!
12/28/2011 06:07:27 PM · #40
oddly, there is min pain, or i am a steal laced rock! one of the dutch words i know is "boren" - drilling.
it started making me laugh as this one word i heard & understood again n again laying on the table waiting... (ok, i am an odd guy)
i worked the thumb joint 4 the 1st week all the time, but the cast blocks it now, only a few degrees of motion possible.
the thumb is in 4 pieces & not great, seems 1 piece settled forward into the joint they see on x-ray. is a worry going forward.
serious pain after surgery yesterday, morphine like shots, lots of sleep.. 24hrs+ incl 6 in surg. then i napped.
also interesting, the rod seems sealed on my thumb skin, i can n do pour alcohol onto the rod holes daily, no pain, just cold - must be sealed.
fingers trying to wake up again, they were doing well b4 the 2nd surg. but now the wrist no happy.
thanks again 4 ur kind support & words, helps 2 pass the time quietly.

damn man that looks painful...I hope everything heals up...
12/28/2011 06:25:19 PM · #42
he'll heal i have found doctors make everything they tell you worst case scenario to cover their asses. besides by the look of that cast we can wedge his camera between it and the metal thing so he won't drop it!

bad night, wrist swelled in cast, cut blood flow, thumb + 2 fingers went numb.
took a bus to VU - hosp. 5am, they cut cast, relief washed over me and feeling returned to thumb fingers.
still numb side of thumb past pin hole on 1 side.
u know is bad when u no sleep, only thinking i need to change this!
happy new year all!!! hope 4 a happy and Safe one 4 you all!

finally it is the day before tomorrow! the good tomorrow, the one when this pin will come out of my thumb!
hoping i had a great set, and its lined up well.... new cast as well i assume
be careful out there! it is snowy and icy somewhere in the DPC world...
& maintain those rear brakes if u riding those scooters or cycles!

Good luck with that healing process.
With luck, you will be using both hands really soon.

gah, they said:looks good, come back in two more weeks! my hand wanted out of this thing! even for a hour....
the cast presses against the incision on my wrist. so the countdown is back to: two weeks....
glad it looks good so far, but.. (waa!)

well, they gave me back my arm yesterday, all scratched, dented, and none of the parts work right on it anymore.
trying to get the fingers to move again, but the wrist is just barely free, 20 degrees maybe.
fingers have responded ok, considering i could barely move anything on the hand yesterday.
long shower 2 wash 40 days of hand funk free.
anyone have wrist exercises? they have me stretching my fingers n thumb: 5 sec holds, and i try to slowly bend it, but it so weak and pain sensitive.
7" incision along my wrist into my palm. thumb will take much time also, weird the way my hand wont react to my mind, have to insist it moves....
feels like a helicopter taking off, slowly gains the power to leave the pillow on my desk (yes, it has it's own little 'bed', like a puppy)
thanks for all the support and concern, one day i'll pick up my camera again...

Wow...

What an incredibly painful time -- but how wonderful to have the arm back, scratched and dented though it may be.

Try and keep positive -- the body can do amazing things in healing itself.

They didn't give you wrist exercises? Can you sign up for physical therapy? It can do wonders -- the experts know more about what can help and what can hurt.

Excellent idea. I had physical therapy after my broken kneecap last year. It really helped. They know exactly what sort of exercises to make you do that will help you regain your strength & range of motion.
