I'm going to Vegas in April, and I was wondering which gear to bring? I have a 7D with grip, 70-200L, 24-70L, and 28-300L. I also have a 10-22mm on order as well. I was thinking of taking the 10-22mm and either the 24-70 or the 28-300, but I'm not sure how much the big zoom is needed. I'll be doing a Grand Canyon tour, so the 10-22 is a must, and other than that I'll be doing various shots on the strip, inside a few of the hotel/casinos (wherever photography is allowed), and Freemont Street. Any thoughts from those who have experience shooting in Vegas?

You'll probably be happiest with your widest angle shots there, I would think. The 10-22 is going to be a big help, both there and for the Grand Canyon.

I believe you're going to have a hard time finding any casino that will be happy with you taking pictures inside. I actually have a picture from 1988 that includes a security guy coming up to me at Caesar's Palace to tell me to put the camera away :) I would expect that I probably would have been tased in there if I had tried that today...

Fremont Street ("Glitter Gulch") is your best photo opportunity in Vegas, really. Alan is correct, you will NOT be allowed to take pictures in the casinos. Security will descend on you like the wrath of God if you attempt it. The Strip can be interesting at night, but mostly with long glass, compacting perspective.

As far as the Grand Canyon goes, you'll actually find yourself using the longer lens quite a bit even there. The ultrawide is just TOO wide, the place starts to look like a crack in the dirt. That's not always true INSIDE the canyon, of course (if you hike in, or raft it) but it's definitely true when touring the rim.

I'd take the 10-22 and the 28-300 if I wanted to minimize the amount of gear I was schlepping around...

I'd recommend a small travel tripod. You could get some really neat night shots on the strip. Definitely take the 10-22!

They CAN, not always though, especially if gymnastics are involved.
