DPC Community,

This is certainly long overdue, and I'm not exactly sure where to begin. I think a little transparency would be helpful. I'll start by saying that I've been hearing your voices for a while now regarding your hopes for DPC features and improvements. There are a lot of great ideas in the hopper, but it has always come down to a lack of resources. Drew and I started on a complete overhaul back in 2009 (DPC3) and were able to get pretty far with it, but it ultimately crumbled due to a lack of time and focus.

I've signed up to Get Satisfaction as the first step to get back on the right track. The Web Site Suggestions thread, while containing a wealth of information, has become entirely unmanageable. Get Satisfaction offers a unique approach at keeping in touch with the desires of the community. At face value, it's just another list of suggestions that can make the site great, but it has the features necessary to maintain that list and more importantly, to gauge what the community finds most important. The Web Site Suggestions forum will be closed to new posts, but I'll keep the existing ones visible so that all the great ideas can be referenced.

The second step is to hire a Community Manager. I'm still working out the details of the position, but I'm looking for someone to be the face of DPC and manage the day to day activities while keeping their finger on the pulse of DPC. I need someone that really understands where the community is going and what the community wants from the site. This will allow me to focus more on site improvements and the technical side of things.

Coming back around to DPC3 and why this thread is titled v2.5 -- it's always much more difficult to completely recreate something than it is to incrementally make something that already exists better. I get a ton of mixed signals from the community whether a complete redesign of DPC would be a good thing or not (DPC3 was a complete redesign). A lot of folks feel that DPC is showing it's age while at the same time others are saying if it's not broke, don't fix it. I feel like a perfect compromise, and what worked for us for so long, is to make steady incremental changes. So based on your feedback from Get Satisfaction, I'd like to start consistently making small to medium-sized changes to the site in an incremental approach. As time passes, we may end up with what may look like a complete redesign, but instead of us going off and coming up with what we think the community wants, the changes will be based on community feedback.

So please, if you have a moment, check out the popular ideas on our Get Satisfaction site and star the ones you're interested in the most. Get Satisfaction has a variety of authentication methods that you can you use so you don't have to create an account and try to remember another password.

Thanks for your time and dedication,
Langdon

Well, had a gander at the satisfaction website.

I have to say, Langdon, you seem to be the biggest advocate of changes. Good for you mate!

You had an idea years ago, it grew, and grew beyond you could probably image. You have a family now, you are still a whipper snapper compared to most of us (you are 70 aren't you??? lol))).

Anyways, I think you did a good thing to go in this direction, lover or haters, bottom line is, this is your baby and your business, let it grow man and reap the benefits of hard work, for us, for you and for your expanding family.

So glad to see you post here. This confirms you still have something personal invested in this and to me it says that DPC will be around a little while longer :) I like that!

I'd like to suggest some consideration be given to SDW maybe for Community Manager?

I look forward to experiencing the next evolution of DPC.

Very good. If you want a nomination for a balanced, wise person to overview the site... it's Bear_Music. He won't want the job, but he's the guy you need.

Been over to the Get Satisfaction site for the last hour or so... there's already a *lot* of good sharing of ideas going on over there. Can't help but be a positive thing.

AH-HAA!

So I was right back then when I started a Thread about you guys working on a new website... but I was locked in and keys were thrown away!

I think our change requests are not that bad here in DPC... for example, color scheme, adding HM to front page and releasing the names, addresses, phone numbers of troll voters.

DPC v2.5? Heck, it should be DPC 9.0 right now!

I go monthly bases right now... it's better for Langdon too, more money for him per month :P I haven't made my mind yet to pay for a year yet.
