...interesting. I have recently picked up the montra that if I vote, I will comment. Good OR bad. I figure people can at least understand what I liked or disliked about their image. It is currently at 5.56 so it isn't a horrible image, but it isn't a barn burner either. I knew it wasn't going to get high votes here and I was OK with that.

The drawback to commenting on all is that I won't get to every image to vote. I think that is a better alternative than to blow through voting on 150 images in an hour. I have done that in the past and I don't think the merit of an image can be decided on in a second or two.

I am sorry to those in the past that I have voted on and not told them why. Won't happen again...

dave dont feel bad. im in exactly the same boat. and mine has a 6.2. not one comment. but then again, it's early on monday. people are tired. hopefully things will pick up. yeah i usually comment every vote unless i just have NOTHING to say : )

I tend to just comment on the ones that move me to comment, i.e. if I see something that could have been improved or if there is something I particularly liked. I really don't want to tell someone that their image is average just so they get a comment. For some images I just don't like them asthetically, but I don't see the point of commenting on something like that.

I'll usually vote on all the images and then try give them a second pass later on to adust the scores a little.

So far I've had two comments on my image from 50-odd votes and it's scoring 5.8 (my highest score so far by the looks of it!)

Hi Y'all. I finally got my first comment out of 50 some odd votes. I figure that the scoring of my photo -- low 5 -- probably means that it's not interesting, creative, gorgeous, amazing...it is actually down right dull. The one comment I got is extremely appreciated although it criticized the one element I purposefully created for "drama".

I havn't commented on every single photo. I try to write what I like about the photo and if I can suggest an improvement, I will make that suggestion. This time, I will try to comment on every photo I rate because I find it very frustrating when I receive 1's and 3's and no explanation as to why. I received those on my 2nd place win last week and without explanations, I feel that someone is just playing around with the scores. (of course, they could have actually hated the photo :))

joanns, I totally right those votes off as someone trying to lower an average. If they don't have the decency to tell me why they think my image stinks I then reverse it and say they liked it so much it worried them so they had to rate it low... LOL!!!

I am going to vote on most so it will be entered and spend the rest of the week commenting here and there...

Hmmm...what a great way to think about that. Then it's only the 4's and 5's that think my photo stinks. LOL

I've voted on all the images in the current challenges, but commented on very few. I tend to add comments later and tweak my votes when I've had time to look at the images for longer.

sorry ... daft question ... how does the votes work...
01/06/2003 06:13:46 PM · #14
That's nothing. I've been on dpc since Oct 15, voted 1775 times, made 1657 comments, and finally submitted my first photo, mainly to get the comments. I wasn't particularly happy with it and thought I'd get some comments as to how to fix it. Well after 74 votes, scoring better than I really expected, I havent' gotten the first comment. I can't score without telling them why I gave the score I did. If I don't comment it's because the score was a 1 and they already know why or no need to add insult to injury. I even go in on the closed challenge and comment on them even though I can't score them anything. I don't understand people I guess.
