Lets see how original people can be. I hope I don't see a load of 'humming birds' 'water drops, and 'waterfalls'.

Didn't we just have a pair of challenges last month that fit the bill exactly the same as this challenge? (ie. Long Exposure and Stopped Motion)?

True but now you can do the opposite to what you entered.

Agreed, only something original will win this one

I really hope the blur ones will go down well, not saying I have a blur photo, I still have'nt decided entirely which one I'll go for, but I hope in the end creativity wins.

I am in and not expecting much. However I like it and that's all that matters to me at this point being that I can't figure out you voters... Lol. :P

Voting should be based on merit and not how often something has been done before. There are new people joining all the time that want to try things and they get down voted because its been done before. If this is the case they might as well stop accepting new members to the site

My comment was in relation to the dullness of the repeated long exposure subject matter; not the fact that it is repeated. I'm sorry to those who like that stuff but milky water around rocks and flowing waterfalls might be pretty, but an interesting photo...? Not to me... I'm already harsh to that stuff in Free Study voting; I'm just hoping we don't see a challenge full of it.

I wasnt having a go at you Paul. Just something that I have picked up since I joined. Some people will see a waterfall pic and give it a 1 coz it irritates them. If the pic is good but you dont like the subject then give it something that it deserves.

Welcome to the DPC soap opera of creativity. You're exactly right about what you said it's just that some people here think this is their site and that they can dictate to others what to photograph or how to do it. Don't fret over the constant bitching about repeating themes or subject matter, do what you like. Anyways, their bitching about it only makes this site less attractive to new-comers and then we wonder why this site's appeal is failing....

I don't think my view is diametrically opposed to yours - I want people to shoot what they want but I wonder/fear that instead newcomers try to glean what will be successful in scoring and pursue a perceived-to-be-safer emulation route; the collective mass of voting steers people in particular directions; liberating newcomers could be seen as an aspiration of both our points of view couldn't it?

Rewarding out-of-the-box thinking and shooting (with our votes) is, I think, very embracing of newcomers since it is deliberatively unaligned with what has been done before - it doesn't try to get them conform with an ideal.

In terms of people thinking it as their site - I hope everybody does: that's how an effective community should work shouldn't it?
