+1

I have an idea that really fits the bill, and terning out a ribbon winner in this would be a great feather in my cap.

FYI that song was covered by The Byrds, but it was written by Pete Seeger (adapted from the Book of Ecclesiastes).

It's pretty much "as you'd think", but if you're still unsure and still in the kitchen try practising on some ternips first.

And I have no idea what your comment about reaching is? ;)

Why would I practice terniquets on ternips? Everyone knows you can't get blood out of a ternip. How would I know if it was working??

My tern of mind is so given to taking things in the absurd point of view, that it breaks out in spite of me every now and then.

The OP could have raked in a fortune by now, if they'd only thought to install a ternstile in the beginning ...

But I wouldn't tern a blind eye to that kind of behavior -- they'd be terned in to the authorities for sure and swift justice.

You're quite right, on second thoughts practising terniquets on ternips probably isn't the best way of treating your injury. You'd risk it terning gangrenous before you're sufficiently skilled at tying them. Do you have any ternpentine? Aside from that I'm not sure how much help I can be, consulting a medical intern will probably give you better advice.

Actually, emergency medical training includes the warning that application of a terniquet risks loss (amputation) of the limb distal to (beyond) where it's applied, and so it should only be done as a last resort.

However, if you really need to cinch something down you might consider employing a ternbuckle ...

Looks as if the worm has terned and the tern has left a stern overterned area.
