Maybe I should just change my username to iSuckBadly. :o(
Or Sir Suckalot.

At least I am learning something from this whole process, and that is that I suck at photography…

Waaah! Poor me.

Apparently you don't suck as much as me, so keep your head up...

Is it that bad? I hardly can't believe it when I quick-browse your portfolio.
From what I see, you don't have to change name. Maybe it's just a lesser period, a bad day. Wouldn't worry too much if I were you ;)

Thanks guys.
It might get better later on. But I doubt it.

Your photos don't suck at all. They are just not so mainstream DPC material.
Everyone has different things that they look for in photos and in everything else, so if you don't happen to hit the magic button here, it's no big deal. DPC voters are not the definitive benchmark for what makes photography good or bad.
Langdon slipped an H C Bresson image into one of the street photography challenges one time, and it didn't ribbon.
BTW, your overall average is well above mine, and I feel ok about my photography skills. I tend to get either 6's or 4's so they balance at about 5.25 over time.

if you are trying to please anyone but yourself, you need to find a new hobby.

Cheer up Johann, you're actually doing very well for someone that is relatively new to the challenges. Only one of your 11 listed challenge scores is below a 5, and that's at least a high 4. The majority of your scores are above the 5.3/5.4 mark and you have two in the 6 range already. It took me much longer than that to start scoring above a 6 so you're doing just fine. Just keep up what you're doing, and have confidence in yourself. If you keep shooting for yourself, and study the works of people you admire and research different techniques etc. It will come, and I promise you...you will see the improvement you seek over time. At some point you will look at the photos you are currently taking and compare them to your early shots and you will be amazed at just how far you've progressed. It happens to all of us, and we never stop learning in photography. That's what makes the journey so fulfilling and fun. Just keep plugging away...you're doing fine. :)

Dave

Hey Johann

If you are going to change yours to that then I had better change mine too as you are doing a much better job than me. My theory is I can only get better though I may prove that theory wrong in the current challenge.

The main thing is you are enjoying it - I am loving these challenges and have learnt loads already and I have only been on this site a short time. There are some amazing photographers on here and I can see some people put a huge effort into creating these shots (take the film noir challenge as an example - amazing!!!!!!)

Keep snapping!!

Thanks everybody. I was half joking, but you have made me feel much better. DPC people rule, and I am having a lot of fun.

*off to look for some "C" type object.
