 lisalkee, may I extend my personal welcome to DPC. I hope you do stick around and join in the fun (and there is fun to be had). Being a nature/wildlife photographer should not be an obstacle. There are a few of them in here who do very well. (Check out  vawendy's profile and portfolio.)Only warning I feel I need to give you is that participation quickly leads to addiction.

I accept what she is saying. Why does it seem that you are now attacking me (to LanndonKane)? I didn't call her a spammer, I went to the trouble of trying to verify her story.

i agree. i thought it was amusing that she called you pentax k-5. wouldn't have found it amusing if i thought your username was pentax k-5. definitely not attacking you.

But apparently some people on this site are just critical, skeptical and paranoid photogs...that really does not makes me want to participate on this site.

Welcome to DPC...The good, the bad and the ugly. It's really not this hostile to real people. You have to understand that there have been a slew of new accounts created by bots and/or spammers just to promote some product/site/scam and that the members have a low tolerance for such nonsense because they care about the community here at DPC. Evidently their actions are misguided in your case, hopefully you won't let the "welcome" you received from some of the resident curmudgeons discourage your participation here.

And here is the reason for DPC attrition.
Lisa, I have been here since 2008, and it has been an extraordinary place to learn, make friends, and grow as a photographer. I hope you are able to see past this initial unwelcomeness, and get to know us a little better before writing DPC off for good. |

you need to look at your post from the perspective of the folks here.
your first and only post was confirming a contest was legit with that you added zero credibility to the attempt of confirmation. You appeared to be a minion of a spammer and if anything your attempt at confirmation cast even more doubt.
The crowd here is very skeptical of new users who haven't participated and then start plugging other goods.
if we are skeptical its becuase we have to be. participation here is paramount to earning any trust on this site.
We do however extend a welcome if your intents are legit, but don't be offended if i and others remain skeptical until we see you become a more active member.

Wow! I am just amazed at the comments that have been posted...Lets clear this up once & for all...
I originally saw the DPC site forun discussion on the legitimacy of the "other" site...I signed up to comment...NOT PROMOTE...about my experience with the "other" site...that's ALL!
The first response I get is "you don't sound very legit" and "made an account to promote the site" and then more to that affect, "spammy behavior", "market the site", "the two of them", "prove me wrong", "seems like a troll"...shall I go on with the insults to someone you don't even know...oh yes and the best one of all is being called a "minion of a spammer"
The only person who had the decency to look me up to see if I was indeed a "real" photog was Aloha Dave! Thank you Dave...I respect you for that!
And I also appreciate the few people who were at least decent to me, Spork 99, Tanguera, Jomari...

I am just appalled at the behavior of what looks to be young men...probably the same age as my son (30)...who would treat someone with such disrespect.

wasn't an insult. i said you didn't sound very legit, which you didn't. you even said that you could understand the skepticism. so we had some mutual acknowledgement of each person's position happening. i then said it's good you responded, because bots don't respond (acknowledging that you were indeed a person), and then said this site was a cool place the learn photography and hoped you stuck around. all sound fairly reasonable to me. |
