I'll be spending the day holding my breath and waiting tomorrow... For a substantial purchase that's en route from B&H... Since it's on my mind, well, just to pass the time away, I thought I'd open a thread for speculation, if anyone cares to venture guesses as to what I've acquired.

I'll drop hints at random intervals, as needed. Have fun :-)

You're switching all your Cannon gear for Nikon?!

He said substantial purchase : )

So...you're switching all your Canon gear for a large format digital back? : )

Suggestions for first hint:
- Does it involve a sensor, glass, or other?
- How much does it weight?
- What color is it?
- Does its purpose overlap with a piece of gear you already own and is listed in your profile?

5D mkII (doubtful, you'd wait for the mkIII to drop)
85mm f/1.2 (possible, but not really your style)
135 f/2 (possible)
200 f/2 (possible, but not exactly what I see you buying)
300 f/2.8 (again, possible, but I don't see you carting this around)

My guess in the end is that you've purchased an EF 8-15mm f/4L fisheye.. It suits your style, costs a boatload, and is new enough and odd enough for you to really want it.

Keep guessing, folks, you're giving me great ideas for the next time I go insane, but nobody's nailed it yet. A couple hints:

1. I'll never switch to Nikon
2. It's not a camera body (Cory's correct that I'll wait for 5Diii)

Keep 'em coming...

R.

Oh, BTW, I do covet the 8-14mm Cory mentions, but it's not in my immediate plans.

17mm f/4L tilt shift?
Or the 24mm tilt shift? I've used that one. It's really nice : )

Is it tomorrow yet?

No. No, No. No. And Not Yet.

We need some creative thinking here, people.

A Macbook Pro

Yup, that's creative thinking. But it's not a Macbook Pro. I'm a windows guy. I've looked at Macbook long and hard, but it just doesn't seem like enough bang for the buck. Or something...

Some glass starting with "Z".... and ends with "eiss" Maybe the 21mm???

- I know you have the 100mm L macro so it's not another of those, so the big Zee is my guess.

mail order photo Model?

The man in the brown shorts dropped off a new projector for me today, so it got me thinking laterally. How about an output device? Perhaps a nice big Epson Stylus Pro 7900? That would make me unable to rest while waiting for the truck.

Lego for a last minute entry?

A tracking telescope for astral photography...

A new stove for cooking.

A side of beef. :)

Is it even digital-photography-related? I know you were once a film guy. Could you be returning to the golden ages?

It's not a body. It doesn't seem like a lens, especially since you already have quite a healthy selection. You already have your computer and it sounds like you have a million choices of editing programs on it, as well as calibration software and whatnot. You do lots of landscapes, so I assume you have a decent tripod (even though a new tripod crossed my mind since the fancy ones cost a pretty penny). I think you have all the other fun landscape stuff, like filters and stuff. You seem to do fine with portrait lighting with what you have, though you don't seem to favor portraits most of the time anyway. I haven't heard you express much interest in video, but maybe I just missed that. You have a boat, so maybe a really cool underwater housing for your get-up, or maybe something else underwater-related? I like Wendy's suggestion of a telescope too.

Or! Maybe you bought presents for all of us : )
