Actually, I don't know that we can assume that they are treating everyone the same... it seems like a group is targeting high-scoring images. Of course, evidence is *very* circumstantial. It is entirely possible (though it seems unlikely) that later voters vote much lower. I will be interested to see:
1.) The histograms for the top images after the close of the challenge
2.) The magnitude and direction of the vote scrubber "jump" at rollover. I've seen both negative and positive jumps. A strong positive jump would indicate some scrubbing of troll votes.

I went from a 6.18 to about 6.0 in the span of 3-4 votes that happened in quick succession (from 100 to 103 or 104). A drop that quickly can only be the result of getting three or four 1's and maybe a 2, which is highly coincidental. It's taken 40 votes to get back up to the previous level. I don't think the troll voters are treating everyone the same, or i agree that it wouldn't be an issue.

I haven't been around here that long and this is only my second challenge entry. I'll wait for the final result to see how effective the 'scrubbing' system is. Obviously my photo isn't in the running for a ribbon, but when the scoring can be affected like this it is discouraging (although admittedly without three 1's my score would still be around the 6.3 mark - not a huge difference).

Just voted. Probably the highest votes I've given in a while. Some great pics there!!!!!!!

You have rated 196 of 196 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 7.5867.

Now I just want this whole miserable slog to be over so I can show off my thirty five image gallery 'The Bugs Of Regret'... wherein I share thirty four additional images that did not make it into the challenge, each and every one being the sort that would probably do better than the one actually submitted.

What I lack in score will be soon made up for by dazzling you all with my prolific output!

Until then...

;)

Gonna spam the outtakes thread?

Why... why yes!

Heck, I've even been thinking of holding an image-ranking side contest to see which of them I should have submitted instead. I like to torture myself with non-actionable data.

I simply cannot believe the number of comments during the challenge. It's just over the top. The emotional reaction of the commentors is exactly what I was trying to achieve. That, in addition to the unexpectedly high score, is what they call "the icing on the cake."

Rare insect. Mediocre score. Oh, well. I met the challenge by showing an insect in its environment. I like the image very much. This was not a macro photo competition.

The number of comments is simply awesome. You are correct in that the emotional connection is quite important and makes for a fun challenge. The high score is pretty cool also. I've ended up with an unexpected high score myself for this challenge, yet I've only received 7 comments. I can't complain though, since I haven't left any comments yet due to my work schedule over the last couple of weeks. Leaving this forum now to get back to work :)

And that is what truly matters. If I had a buck for every time I entered something I really liked, and saw it becalmed in the doldrums of the mid-5 latitudes!

Congratulations, in advance, on your great success of your image. I'm certain it is well deserved.

We can stop voting now! Having declined for days to about 5.91, my entry finally recovered to 6. No complaints here!

I'll tell you what. I'll give myself the flak. I had a little vote tracker going at work and when I looked at it, what appeared to be an untoward drop really had no troll votes. In fact, there were no votes under 4. You wouldn't suspect this, but it just goes to show a high score can mellow quickly with just mediocre scores.

Look at this:

6.9444 at 90 votes.

Next votes: 6,7,7,7,6,7,7,7,7,6,6,7,6,6,9,6,6,5,6,7,7,4,8,5,7,8,6,7,5,4,7,8,6,6,6,7,4,6,7,6,7,7,5,5

6.7463 at 134 votes.

Looks like a big drop, but really there aren't any bad scores there at all.

I've been doing some (rudimentary) tracking as well, but not automated, just recording what I see when I look. I'll share what I've seen a little later when I have time to upload it. I do agree, there aren't a lot of *really* low votes, but I'm reluctant to conclude that there's no funny business going on. OTOH, I certainly can't prove beyond reasonable doubt that there is.
In any case, I am crazy happy with my score on this one, and also the amount of comments.

That tells you right there that it is very hard to attain a score of 7

Of course it is; any score of 7 or less is a negative factor on a 7+ score. 8+ scores? Fageddaboudit! Almost impossible to hold those...

sitting at 7.25, still can't believe what a week it's been. don't understand why anyone would manipulate their vote for others it doesn't help YOUR score. the euphoria of 7+ is more than enough of a rush, i can't imagine trying to "manipulate" results.

OK, this is probably my last post. Per my earlier post, here's my score plot:

From 26 votes to 38 votes, I was scoring 6.17
From 38 votes to 110 votes, I was scoring 7.25
From 101 votes to 138 votes, I was scoring 6.07
From 138 votes to 168 votes, I was scoring 7.5
From 168 votes to 184 votes (presently) I am scoring 6.43
