Great entries in this challenge though most are from the USA as could be expected. Just a few from other countries. I see one from South Africa, 1x from Israel, 1x from France, 1x from Norway, 1x from the UK (or is there a Lancashire in the USA too?) 1x from Germany, 1x from Hong Kong and 1x from Holland.

I think Katie is on a roll.

Starting off ok myself. Of course at this point, it only indicates that it does not totally suck.

I predicted earlier that there would be very few entries for this challenge. I see I was right!

At least I know I'll make it in the top 60.

And no Aussies!! I took some test shots and did not like them so I gave up on this challenge.

I may yet go back and review and revise a few votes. Lots of great entries! ...but I did ding a few entries that didn't follow the title requirements in the challenge description.

I will comment on every picture in this challenge. Only 57 to comment on. Shouldn't be hard. Who's with me?

You are free to vote however you like but I do feel that was unfair of you. The description said name the city and state. I don't live in the US or any country with states, so how was I supposed to do that?????????????

I understand where you're coming from Karen. I knew when I typed it that some might disagree. I also see your point about your specific circumstances, but when I voted, if there was a diner name and location, I counted that as meeting the description. In my opinion, since the challenge specified title info, I treated it as part of "meeting the challenge" to comply. Normally I don't consider titles (or frames for that matter) in scoring.

(edit): Oh, and my average score WAS 6+ !

@nova, @KarenNfld
Same her in Germany, I could have added our "Bundesland" "Nordrhein-Westfalen" equal to States in Usa but this wouldn`t make much sense. Right this was part of the Challenge Description but I think the Art of the photograph should be the subject of the score. The Titel is more cosmetically.

Greetings Kevin

Absolutely agree. Its about the image the title stuff is just a formality imo and should not be used to deduct points when voting. It's a Photo Challenge Site not a language challenge site.

I agree with you guys, EXCEPT when the admins. spell out a titling requirement in the challenge description. That kind of makes it the definition of DNMC, wouldn't you say? However, I'll gladly go bump all 5 of the entries that I felt didn't comply by one point (the amount I dinged) if that's how everyone agrees it should be. One or two of those got a 6 from me already.

As for the title, I just look at the picture. If I like it, and think it fits the challenge, I vote accordingly. Title is secondary.

well, i apologize for putting "city and state" in my original challenge suggestion. it would have been better to say something like "please include the location in the title" to allow some more flexibility. my intent was not to be U.S.A.-centric.

however, i have to disagree somewhat that the title is not important for this site. the title conveys the artists intentions, and we then make judgements as to how well the image matches the intent. otherwise, the site would have a stipulation that all photos must be named "Untitled #X" or something like that. And when the challenge SPECIFICALLY states that the title must conform to some rules, you gotta base the score on the rules, IMO (eg., the Six Word Memior challenge).

It's rare that it's specified in the challenge description -- and this time it was. There were concerns voiced by people before the challenge started: specifically that they felt they were giving up anonymity by posting the city and state, yet they did it anyway. I believe that the title is part of the challenge, in this instance.

When you're mailing something, you're supposed to put the city and state. When I mail internationally, I know to put a province, country, etc. I don't see a problem if you're out of the US. You put the equivalent, or as close as you can get.

@mefnj
It is right that in the challenges the title is a very important part to send the intention/vision of the photographer to the public. I have very often a title in my mind and try to find a motif for this. But I can understand that some people don`t want to bring this in the subject for different reasons. We are not competing for prices or money. It is a great pleasure to be a part of a worldwide community which has a fascinating hobby. DonĀ“t take it too accurate.

Greetings
Kevin

There are plenty of titles in this challenge that list the city and country, or even less, while still giving location information (Hong Kong, Hong Kong).

That being said, I didn't drop any points if the title wasn't "correct." That wouldn't be in the spirit of the challenge. :-)

Ok, did any of you "Title Rebels" (just kidding... kidding) notice an increase in your score in the last minutes? I did go back and bump up several: new scores were one 7, three 6s and a 5 (I think). Honestly, I'm glad I mentioned it to begin with so that I had a chance to straighten it out. Good luck to everyone.
