I finally decided to buy Portrait Professional because they're doing a sale - $50 off, now $39.95.

When I got their confirmation email, they sent me a coupon to share with a friend (sure wish I'd had that one BEFORE I ordered) for 15% off. It even sounds like it could be used on the current special!

If you're interested, go ahead and use the code. I'll remember you in my prayers if I want an upgrade some day.

Here is the text from the email I got:

Refer A Friend, And Get A Free Upgrade (T&Cs)
Tell your friends about Portrait Professional, and you can both save! Give your friends the coupon below (which they need to enter in the coupon box at the bottom of the buy page) and they can save 15% off the cost of any edition of Portrait Professional. And if any of your friends use the coupon, you will get a free upgrade to the next version when it is released!

That's awesome, Kim, but did the 15% work for you on top of the 50 bucks?
I hope it did!!!

So, what's the bottom line with the 15% off? 15% off list, or off the discounted price?

So wait a minute... 39.99 + 15% off? Or is the 15% off for upgrades later on?

I am sort of confused...

Also, if I am getting a new computer soon would I be able to transfer the program over? Sorry if that is a dumb question but I am not really all that computer literate... :/

ETA: I put the code in to see and found this...

Portrait Professional v10...........$39.95
Coupon discount.....................$-6.00
Total...............................$33.95

Shouldn't be a problem. Worst-case scenario is you have to remove it from old machine before you can register it on new one.

Am I the only one who finds these programs creepy? The automatic restructuring of facial features of a client's face to come closer to some database of acceptable beauty. It changes jaw lines, it moves eyes, and it purges freckles as if they were an abomination. It creates a plasticized homogenization of a generic ideal feature sets and re plots your pictures to fit them.

I can see getting rid of zits and under eye bags, but presenting your sitter with an image of how they would look after plastic surgery is creepy, and a debasement of the beauty that is there in even the plainest of faces.

I feel exactly the same way- Everybody looks sort of like a porn star. Are freckles that bad that they have to be photoshopped out? Perhaps this is whats wrong with society- making everybody feel bad unless they look like the cover of vogue.

When working with someone with a lot of freckles I tend to try and keep them but if the person only has one or two I get rid of them... Am I the only one who does this? And with this program will someone with a ton of freckles confuse the program?

I use PP once in a while, mainly for glamour type shots. You are not forced to change the shape of someone's face. You can make the removal of lines, freckles, etc. as light or as heavy as you want. It's a good program, useful when you don't have the time to manually do what someone might want done. I'm still using an older version and haven't felt the need to upgrade.

I don't personally see this as any different to any other post processing, sometimes things get overdone and then it looks bad, but most, if not all of us, do it to some extent (not just with portraits of course)..

It is subjective, If you are a 50+ female move all the sliders to MAX and Use the touch up brush!! raise my fore-head, turn my eyes back up lengthen that neck, and then go back to PS and use the pucker tool to get rid of hangy down thing under my chin!

I just did a shoot for a couple, the Wife wanted MAXED out processing the hubs NOTHING... and why is this.. BECAUSE YOU FREAKIN' GUYS GET SILVER AND RUGGED, WE GET OLD N WRINKLEY!!!!

Question... I looked in the site briefly and it said nothing about photoshop... That I assume means it is a separate program? Not like a plugin or anything?

Yes, it's a separate program.

The basic level is a stand-alone program. If I recall correctly, the intermediate and maybe the premium levels are available as a PS plug-in.

Sounds good anyone know how long it will be on sale?
06/26/2011 07:30:14 PM · #24
Played with the demo...that's pretty impressive! Is it legal for DPChallenges?
06/26/2011 08:14:08 PM · #25
interested, but what does it do that photoshop or lightroom wont, or does it just make it easier?

edit just watched the video, pretty cool, but i have no use for it as i don't do portraits and i also doubt using it is legal in basic since its morphing teh image, not to mention dogdeing/burn and cloning out perfections.
