To paraphrase a well-known President, there you go again ... trying to get people all confused with facts. :)

I will again suggest (brobably in futility) that a photography site is not the best place for threads on politics. They don't change anyone's mind and all they do is divide the community.

As you seem to enjoy discussing politics, I'd encourage you to explore sites that specialize in that for doing so. Slate may be a good place to start, though I have not checked it out much myself.

It is best to keep politics out. Instead of these arguments, show me a nice picture to see. lol

gee - a fact checking page from michaelmoore.com. I'm sure that's wholly unbiased...

here is another site that may prove interesting to people:

Again, as I have said before, I do not understand why people who do not want to read threads on politics venture into forums that are about Fahrenheit 911, for example. Folks who belong to this site are entitled to post threads about vitually anything in the "rant" section. If you don't want to talk politics, all you have to do is simply avoid forums that appear to be about those topics. Some people would like to discuss non-photography topics with the intelligent people they meet in this community. Please let them. There's nothing wrong with what they're doing. The forum title makes it quite clear what this discussion is about. If you aren't interested in the topic, why did you visit this forum? It's like a vegan going into a steakhouse and complaining that there's mostly meat there. The existence of the steakhouse is not the issue. It is the vegan who chooses to voluntarily go there, knowing that it does not offer what he/she wants. (not that I have anything against vegans)

Hey Liana, welcome back! I was just browsing your photos the other day and wondering when or if we'd see you submitting again... yours are still some of my favorite photos on this site.

To clarify, political discussion is not prohibited here. That said, there are a very small number of users who seem to initiate the vast majority of the political discussion. I am simply asking those users to consider whether this is the best place for those discussions. I have no problem with those discussions within reason.

Thank you so much for the clarification (and the compliment) Terry. If I seemed intense, it was only because this is the umpteenth time I have seen people go into a clearly-marked forum and (seemingly) complain about its content. Never understood it.

I've been around DPC, just not able to submit as much as I'd like to. Love browsing the forums for a little entertainment. :)

Fact checker

Well a "fact checker" on MichaelMoore.com already has one mark against it. Just browsing through it you'll see what Michael More does best. Present bogus statements or half truths and back them up with meaningless garbage.

Here are some random examples:

Fox was the first network to call Florida for Bush.
So what! Apparently they had the story right because the other networks followed their lead.

Gore got the most votes in 2000
Electoral votes actually elect a President.

"They pelted Bush's limo with eggs."
Source states the limo was hit with "an" egg. Hardly pelted.

On Sept. 10, 2001 , Bush joined his brother in Florida where he slept the night in "a bed made of fine French linens."
Whoa, there's a good one. I own a set of Michelin tires and I've "actually" publicly stated my dislike of the French. What's the point?

"Nearly seven minutes passed with nobody doing anything."
Believe me, there were at that moment, thousands of government officials doing a hell of a lot things. Was the President supposed to teleport to New York and man an antiaircraft battery?

Maybe Mr. Bush was wondering why he had cut terrorism funding from the FBI.
Source states they cut the FBI's "request" for "new" counterterrorism money by 12 percent. Pay attention to the quotes. And did counterterrorism money seem like a big issue on September 10? Do you remember feeling concerned about terrorists on September 10?

Was it the guy my daddy's friends delivered a lot of weapons to?"
We gave aid to Stalin during WWII. What's the point? Was Iraq or the rise of radical Islamic fundamentalism in Iran the biggest issue at the time?

"Was it that group of religious fundamentalists who visited my state when I was governor?"
Is the governor of any state supposed to know who visits private companies on non state business?

"In the days following September 11th , all commercial and private airline traffic was grounded."
Well, Michael got that one right. Thanks for sighting a source for a non-disputed issue mike.

Well, I could do this all night but I think you get the point.

What's your point? It's four years later and they aren't any more correct.

Electoral votes are based on actual votes. If gore had more votes in Florida, he should've gotten those electoral votes.

Not that I have an opinion on the matter.

Yes, I have to agree as well to the above reasons. I get enough politics and issues related problems everwhere. I come here to exscape and relax. To be creative and play around with my hobby. This site is for photograghy. However, I'm glad to see that folks have concerns about the world around us. I hope that here on dpchallenge.com we can share something we have all a love for or like which is of course photos. It's really neat to comunicate and unite here at one place from all over the world..I hate to see that politics may some how devide us...Problem could arise where what one person feels about any Goverment may hinder our fairness as becomeing a better photogragher in the long run...I like to see that we can enjoy each others works and have fun while doing so...Thanks!

and thelsel, ill asume you havnt seen the movie. Oh well, I guess it wasnt the best idea to post the fact checker for those who havnt seen the movie.

Anyways, my whole point for posting any of these is that i honestly believe Fahrenheit 911 is the most important documentary in American history. I wish everyone would at least see the movie, then create an oppinion about it.

btw, I think as Jungle said about these topics, "They don't change anyone's mind and all they do is divide the community",
IMO, the current administration in the white house is doing just that, hence why these topics often get heated.

As an example of what i said before about dividing, take a look at George Bush's website, then check out John Kerry's website. There is one glairing difference I see. Do you see it?
07/18/2004 12:12:42 PM · #22
Seems both sites just talk about Kerry.

Wow...your right. I don't see Bush or Cheney's name anywhere on the front page of Kerry's site but Bush's site is covered with Kerry's name. I'd never been to either site until just now. Seems Bush would want to be talking more about himself and less about Kerry at this point. It makes him appear to be on the defensive.

Well...since facts are needed...The 56 Deciets. See how he doesn't use the word lies? It is explained in the text.

I have seen the film and imo the film is not so much about the veracity of the facts behind the current administration and it's relationship to the WTC attacks or the war in Iraq as presented by Michael Moore, but is really about the manipulation of the masses by the corporate media and how information is presented so as to manufacturer consent. (Term and title coined by Noam Chomsky). The film is doing exactly what it's producer intended it to...spur debate, which was very absent after the 9/11 attacks and the lead up and follow up to the Iraqi war. The film is really about the control of information in the US. Read (or view) between the lines.
