Just FYI, my 300D suffered the ever-dreaded and usually "fatal" (I've been told it's fixable but Canon isn't the quickest about returning repairs) shutter problem coupled with several Error99s while I was in Atlanta. I just got back from picking up the replacement (brand new) from Best Buy...thank goodness I bought the warranty.
I'm writing a letter to Canon about the shutter issue. I'll let you know if there is anything new from them. |

I bought it January 11th. I had crossed that 10,000 exposure mark sometime in late May, early June. |

10,000 exposures in roughly 6 months?
Holy Shutterbug Batman!
I doubt I will end up with anywhere near that in 2 years, at the rate I am shooting.
Is this 'Dreaded' shutter problem common with high use or fairly random? |

I'm past 12,000 in 5 months. My kids can say "cheese" in their sleep. ;-) |

National Geographic shoots between 300 and 400 rolls of 36 exposure film. So they are shooting 10,000 shoot on a light assignment.
I take a lot of shots myself, I have taken about 12,000 so far this year.
Photojournalist have always taken an incredible number of photos, until the advent of the digital camera we amateurs could not afford to do so, now we can and it is great.
I keep all the photos I take on DVD, before any editing has been don’t to them. Assume a photo takes up 3.5 MB and assume that I take 20,000 photo / year. The cost to store all the photos I take is then around $17/year, double this number for backups and I am at $34.

Of course, not being a DSLR, so who knows how long it will last, but I got my Kodak DX-6490 in May and have taken 6600 pics so far...does that mean I have some horrible, hopeless additiction or what???? Maybe I should get help... LOL
