In my photography class, we started a new projected called DYO (Design Your Own). I'm supposed to create my own project, but I'd like some new ideas. Can anyone help me out?

Design Your Own Project

This project is yours to design and develop given your interests in the processes and ideas introduced in class.

There are no limitations on the realization of this project, except that it must employ digital, still photography and be conceptually, technically and aesthetically coherent, well thought-out and developed.

Some possible ideas:
• Develop a theme or idea that you have been thinking about. For example: landscape, self-portrait, commercial/advertising.
• Research a technique in Photoshop that hasn’t been covered and has multiple steps. Then, use it with your photographs.
• Focus on an Element or Principle of Art that you haven’t already worked with. For example: shape, form, color, texture, value, space, proportion, balance, rhythm (repetition), variety.

The project is called "design your own project", so really, you should in fact design your own project.

If you ask for a bunch of input and help, you can hardly call it your own.

Don't be afraid of your own ideas.

Call me crazy, but I think this is all YOU. I think the key here is in the synopsis: This project is yours to design and develop given your interests in the processes and ideas introduced in class.

Since we don't know the processes and ideas introduced in class, nor YOUR interests in any of those, it would be difficult to even make suggestions.

Just think about what you learned/heard in class and focus on something that really got you excited or interested or really captured your imagination, and build a project around that.

As Linda and Rachel have stated - figure out what you are interested in and do the project on that. Is it the taking of photos? Is it the processing of them? Do you have a subject you like most? Do you want to learn something new and try something that you need to learn about? Consider all these and pick something you like.

I'm so glad to hear you're taking a photography class, good girl! :D

But I agree with others, this is all you.

Shouldn't be hard, look around this site for inspiration and ideas.

Let us know the results! :)

Yep, its got to be you.
Just choose something that is fun for you to shoot.
For instance, while the Chalk challenge was up for submission, I needed to submit a self portrait to the photography class I was taking. One thought led to another, and eventually my top rated picture on my profile resulted.
I had so much fun doing it, that when we had to choose a Final Project of our own choice, where we had to submit 8 pictures of one theme, I decided to do an entire Chalk series. You can see them Here.
Now, just because I gave this example does NOT mean you should do that as your project. In fact, I would be rather miffed if you did. Chalk is my thing.
I just gave the example as an example of the thought process, or how you can take a favorite picture you have ever taken, and turn it into a series.

Do an Extortion Series.

Get a long lens, hide outside your teachers house. Get to know his/her schedule. Catch him/ her at something unethical. Get an A+. Give me credit for the idea on your assignment.

Bold is mine...better yet...look into yourself. If one constantly looks around the WWW for inspiration and ideas, you will never develop your own voice...you'll end up looking like everyone else.

With a name like KenzieKupcake I think you should do some sort of food theme.

Look through the challenge suggestions list. If something hits a spark, build a fire around it.

Perhaps something related to local culture? A photo project looking at farming & ranching in some unique way? If I recall, you also live here in the great nation of Texas, so lots of great material abounds.
