Thanks for creating that sample for me, David. The option that I would want to create in my pricing on Zenfolio is the ability for a client of my sports or dance studio photography to be able to choose a package of different images based on something like this:

Any (2) 5x7's
Any (1) 8x10
Any (4) 4x6's

Say the total for purchasing these separately would be $65, they would be able to purchase all of the prints in this package for something like $49.95.

My clients absolutely love the ability to create their own packages of different images of different sizes and save money. Actually, it makes them happy and results in significantly larger orders, making quite a bit for me.

Is it possible on Zenfolio to offer this option of clients assembling packages of different images?

I had never tried this, but I just did and it's pretty cool. The user can actually drag and drop individual images into their package. I put the package on the same smaple gallery so you can try it.

That's a great start, David. I love the concept of simply dragging the photos into the slots on the package but I was only able to do so with the first image that I selected. Once I had the first one dragged over I was notified that I had not yet completed the assembly of the package but when I went back to shopping I couldn't display the "empty slots of the package" AND the other image choices. Once I finally figured out how to get back to the image gallery, I no longer had the package in front of me and I can't figure out how to complete it.

I would bet that this is simply because this is just a quick mock up of what you now have in mind and that it can be fine tuned to work for clients who need a simple way to assemble packages. Anyway, I see that it is possible to create it. I would need to make it work more smoothly for clients who are not very adept at using a computer (many of mine aren't).

Thanks for taking the time to create that sample for me. It appears that you are now quite interested in this feature. Let me know if you refine it to some point that it works a lot better.

edit to add: It might be necessary to have clients put the images that they are interested in into some sort of favorites folder and then drag images from there.

edit to add again: Yes, it worked by putting all of my potential selections into my favorites and then selecting the package product. It was fairly cumbersome and I'd like to make it more simple for "simple" clients, but you been very helpful in determining the answer to my question.

If you have some sort of referral code for which you can get credit from Zenfolio, send it to me and I'll be happy to use it.

Thanks a lot!

WARNING ZENFOLIO USERS ... Oy Vey...what did they do!!!!

The slide show on my home page now looks like crap as or. Trying every one of their new home page templates shows the "spotlight" images either way too big and pixelated and cropped or way too small.

Check your home pages...

And if anyone figures out how to get a decent slide show on the home page again, let me know!

I didn't realize they finally implemented the changes. I'm playing around with the layouts a little here at work, but every Zenfolio customer in the world must be on the site right now. It's soooo sloooow.

Neil, how do you have your images set in the original gallery that they're being pulled from? I'm wondering if that gallery is set to view no bigger than 800px or so. Then it might be blowing them up for the bigger slideshow on the front page. Just a thought.

That could be part of it. Actually, my slideshow was based on a collection...so it came from multiple galleries.

I made a new one and removed the portrait orientation shots, because the frame was showing portrait size, then all the landscape photos were "squeezed into the middle of the frame...unlike before. However, I messed up the settings even more now by trying their "presets" and can't even get back to where I started. You would think there would be one place to "save" your settings so you could try other things out and then restore the original settings.

Still working on it!

Hi Neil,

I played with some of the new presets and then made my way back to my original home page. I used a classic layout for my home page and that still works. All of the images in my slide show are exactly the same size. For my portrait shots, I just wrote a photoshop script to pad them with a color that matches my background color. I don't link to them from the slideshow because they look a bit odd outside that context, but at least the slideshow has a consistent appearance.

I have a question, and was not able to find the answer to it yesterday in the few minutes I had to seek.

When I was on smugmug, there was a I could pull up gallery stats and see which picture had the most views, when, etc. A pretty comprehensive overall statistical view of what was going on.

On ZF, all I can find is "views" on the picture/gallery. Is there anywhere else that breaks it down more?

The available stats aren't anywhere near what Smugmug has, but when you first go to the back end home page, look over on the lower right. The bottom couple tabs of the "toolbox" on the right. There is a tab for "Most popular photos and videos" and one for "Most popular galleries."

I tend to rely on google analytics rather than the stats in Zenfolio as they provide more information about who is visiting and the overall flow through my site. The Zenfolio visit counts are available via the Zenfolio API, so I'm surprised nobody has built a utility to track changes on a daily basis.

For those interested, I just noticed on the Zenfolio website that they're giving a 20% discount to new subscribers, no referral code needed. You do need to request the code by getting on their mailing list. Go to their site and there's a "adlet" on the top about the 20% discount and a place to enter your email.
