I took part in this challenge. I would in all likelihood drop way back in the standings but I do believe the right things to do is to shake the cage, get the rubbish out and let the chips fall where they should be. Hope this get's sorted sooner than later

A history book or wikipedia page would be better actually. One that hopefully documents the time she spend in Libya and NK if possible, but it's understandable if that's not available.
Also, if it was her why did she only hit a certain few pictures and not them all?

Think the Rose thread was so old it no longer exists, seems the threads only go back to 2006.
There were others, Rikii was another 'character'.

2006? Thought there was "activity" more recent. I'm more inclined to think that any threads related to that have found the black hole of SC intervention.

I really hope they don't do that. This was a challenge that people went the extra mile. Extra research, extra experimentation.

Let me give you an example:

susielmt

This is her first top 10 and a PB. Not only that, but she deserves a higher spot than she received. She made it to 7th place, even with 12 bogus one votes! I can't imagine the guts it would take to use yourself as a model, and she did an excellent job.

The rest of the votes were valid. If they can scrub the bogus votes, they should recalculate and award the correct ribbons.

I'm glad to see other top 10ers coming out for recalculating. I'm happy to give up my spot so that the right people can have their due. It's nice to see others saying it as well. :)

I agree. I meant that as the only other option.

Edit: But I do like the idea of an un-voted prominent public gallery. Like a side challenge that gets more attention than just that of the participants.

Okay with me to scrub illegitimate votes and recalculate results. My placement may slip from 8th, but I'd rather see rankings based on the unbiased votes.

How long does it usually take to finalise the results if there are DQ's. If it takes any longer than a day or two more then the "correct" ribbon winners wont have any glory time on the front page if it changes...

It can take 2-3 days to validate a photo (also depending on when we get it). We have a number of problems in this challenge however, and we have chosen to do it in one "recalc".

(ETA: In general, if a photo is borderline legal/illegal, it can take longer to validate while we discuss it and try to reach consensus.)

Ok I understand that if it is borderline that SC needs to vote etc.
So no certain date for revised results then?

Take as long as you need (within reason ;-) ). I totally understand that there must be a lot to discuss, and that recalculating everything is going to be rather difficult.

I do hope that once the recalculation is completed, the new winners will get still receive a week on the front page.

The 1st place winner was uploaded to the photographer's facebook page in January. Someone said they can see the EXIF data on the picture here on DPC and it says January. Seems to me it's a no-brainer and should already be gone so the rightful 3rd place winner can have their time on the front page.

Maybe (hopefully) Langdon will let the results for this challenge ride the front page an additional week.

That would be the right thing to do.

If our system is any way like EyeFetch you can see the date taken under each image without having the original......If the first place image was taken earlier in the year it shouldn't take very long at all.....I don't know.

Karen, I think there's also the suspected problem with heavy vote-fixing, which may influence the positions significantly if those votes get scrubbed.

I'd imagine there are other things being discussed OTHER than the blue.
Namely the troll votes I'd suspect. But perhaps there are other images that require tricky validation.

it's kinda weird that the troll votes made it through the scrubber in the first place

I know that I wasn't able to submit my validation until later last night. They might not have received the validations until very recently.

So, if the blue ribbon image was clearly taken out of the challenge dates, why is it still on the front page?

Neil said that other issues are being worked on, as well, and that it's all being taken care of in one swoop.
