I'm currently searching for a D700. Will sell my D90 after I get the 700.

The best price from a legit dealer on a new one is here.

I picked up the D90 from B&H as well as most of my other gear. Just wondering where everyone else shops.

If you own a D700 or the Canon 5D, I'd really like to know your supplier and the quality of the sale.

I shop either through B&H or Adorama. Typically Adorama, which is where I bought from initially. Never a complaint from me.

Bought my first Rebel XT as a demo clearance at a big box retail store that had only been open a week. Why they cleared this out after being on demo for only a week I don't know.

Replaced it with an EOS-20D that I bought from Scalvert. When that needed repair, I took Canon's offer to upgrade to an EOS-50D via their loyalty program.

On-line, I use B&H. Local (if 30 miles and a ferry ride are local) I go to Kenmore Camera, in Kenmore, WA. They have a good selection, are friendly and helpful, and their price matches B&H, except for the sales tax.

As far as my DSLRs go I bought my Canon XSi/450D from B&H. My Canon 7D I recently got from Adorama. I get the majority of photo gear from one or the other, and have never had issues.

I'd spend an extra $50 in a heartbeat on a camera like that to be able to buy it from B&H. I know every dollar counts, but I have spent enough with B&H over the years that I'm not gonna quit now unless there is some problem. That one you have linked from Amazon is sold by Adorama, who is also a reputable dealer, but they also have a $30.95 shipping price listed along with it. It would ship for free from B&H so there is only a $20 difference overall. It's $2699 from Adorama direct but I didn't see any notes about free shipping.

Personally I'd rather deal with the camera shop rather than using Amazon as a middle-man for a big purchase like that. But I guess $20 is $20 :)

I agree. I have had nothing but success in dealing with Adorama, BUT...they have increased their shipping costs on items B&H will ship for free. I like the service and response time I get from both companies, but I will always try to get something through B&H first now (assuming they are both the same price) based on shipping costs. When I recently got my 7D B&H was temporarily out of stock so I went with Adorama and paid the shipping.

One really great thing though is living in central New York State I'm not far from either distributor, and I realized after a few orders that even if I get the normal 3-5 Ground shipping I still get my purchase the next day..less than 24 hours later. Now that's awesome service!

I was told early on in my career to be careful from where you buy. Don't go with Honest Abe's, etc. I was told that B&H was extremely reputable.

15 years later, I'm still buying from B&H. :D

I bought my Canon T1i from a local camera store (Sunny Schick Camera Shop in downtown Fort Wayne, IN) - it was no more than $50 more - primarily because it was just released. I pretty much got that back when it died 4 months later, and they coordinated its resurrection for free (they charge a fee if you didn't buy your camera from them). In my case Canon wanted over $500 to repair the camera, and they were able to find a private individual that repaired it for about $200. If you have a good local camera shop, it does make sense to help keep them in business.
That being said, I bought my Tamron lens from B&H - I just couldn't swallow a $100 difference on a $500 - $600 item.

Just bought a 7D and 100-400L from B&H. They are the clear winner.
If looking for used (and less pricey), Fred Miranda and the Canon forum are the places to check out.

I have used canogacamera.com in the past, more recently I have been a repeat customer of B&H. Both are well regarded brick-and-mortar stores with long histories. One bit of advice, don't wait if you are sure. The Japan disaster has resulted in shortages and price spikes. For example B&H lists the Canon 5D Mark III as "Temporarily Unavailable". Check this recent post on CanonRumors .

edit: Heh heh, make that "Canon 5D Mark II"!

edit #2: Today (April 2) I checked the B&H website and find that they again are listing the Canon 5D Mark II as "In Stock". I also notice at Abe's-of-Maine that the price listed for the 5D Mark II has dropped from $2699 to $2599, which is still a $100 premium above B&H and most other sellers.

There are several good online dealers, which have already been mentioned.

When I bought my 40D, I bought it from a local retailer. The reason being was that I was not sure what I wanted. (Canon or Nikon, and which one... etc.) I paid a few more dollars, but then I also wanted to hold the cameras and see which suited me the best. I used their help, so I paid their price. Most everything else has been bought through B&H, Adorama, eB@y, or from other members here.

For ALL my camera needs I normally shop at B&H or Adorama, whichever is cheaper, or has the item in stock.

For my D7000 Body only I actually found one locally at Ritz Camera, for $1199 which was only a few more than the ones online, which were sold out.

Got my Canon 550D/T2i from Wally World. Was the best price online at the time, and knew they'd stand behind their product if something happened. Plus, them being just down the road from me made me feel better about making a return/exchange rather than dealing with someone across the country.

Another vote for B&H and/or Adorama. I used to use B&H exclusively, but over the last few years, I seem to frequent Adorama more. I do use Amazon as well. If you have a .edu email address you can sign up for a free membership to Amazon Prime, which offers free 2 day shipping on everything that Amazon fulfills directly...

Generally B&H, but when shopping for a DSLR I got such a good deal with Canoga camera that I couldn't pass it up. I've also found BeachCamera.com and its sister site BuyDig.com to be reliable and trustworthy.

Oh yeah.... I've also bought a bit of gear from Cameta Camera. They've got great reviews from others here and did great by me as well.

Usually B&H or Adorama, if I'm impatient, I'll shop locally at Norman Camera or at Calumet in Chicago

I bought my D700 from B&H my 1DMKIV came from Adorama, my D3s I bought used on FredMiranda.com

B&H and returned and returned and returned... I've found some of my best buys there, They even have a used dept, and carry warranties on many things. Bought a lense from the used dept with a years warranty on it and have been happy with it ever since!

I actually picked my D60 up from Ritz Camera.

I have done alot of business with B&H and Adorama and would never hesitate to recommend them.

I bought my 450D at Walmart (came with the kit lens). Bought the 55-250 from a local store. All the rest of my equipment I get from either Amazon or B&H.

Both my D80 and D300s were packages from Cameta Camera. I shopped around a lot first too. For lenses, accessories, etc., usually B&H. Happy with all purchases.
