The description says "Take a photograph inspired by 1 of the 22 cards"

Do you think that means were supposed to set up a shot to look as much like it can by looking at the card or are you to be inspired by the card?
For instance....the Chariot....in my mind that could be my car.
....Strength....could that be a picture of my son working out?
....The Fool....could that be a picture of Art? LOL

You're supposed to take the general card and take a photo of how you interpret that card.

Basic editing?

Advanced or Expert would be in order.

Oh well.

Yep, that's the way I understood it. Was just trying to make sure.

From one way of looking at it, this is close to a free study: those 22 cards, in a titular sense, cover a LOT of territory. The question you need to be asking yourself, as an entrant, is "How literal are the voters likely to be? How many of them actually will familiarize themselves with more than the bare-bones basics of the Tarot?"

In other words, is a properly "mystical" rendering of one of the cards likely to fare better than an image that makes a titular nod to the topic? Will a model dressed up in harlequin and wearing a jester's cap automatically do better, for the card "The Fool", than a 12-year-old mugging for the camera in an endearing manner?"

Pity I can't enter this one again:

But from people wanting Advanced or Expert editing it sounds to me like they wanted more out of the description than just their own interpretutation of the card.

LOL

Also Bear there are many many decks to choose from and they look totally different.
I read from the Rider-Waite deck and from the Native American deck. I also have the Halloween deck. Usually the pictures are close to the same, but slightly changed. Sometimes they are WAY different.

Please make it advanced or expert editing

I say keep it basic editing. I have an idea and it can be done with basic, and at least feel like I have a chance. If it's expert, I won't even bother. I can't compete with the photoshop gurus.

Uh, no. I usually have no problems with my own interpretation of challenges. When I look at the cards I see whimsical images and images based on fantasy. Whether I want to mimc a card or create my own, basic restricts my creativity (what little I have).

Everyone gets freaked out and intimidated by expert editing rules but in reality very few of the top ten images in those challenges take advantage of the rule set. Its just nice to have the option.

I probably won't enter because of time constraints and not the rule constraints.

If my client asked me for a shot using one of the 22 cards as a reference, I wouldn't immediately start looking beyond the 22 cards for ideas. That's my assignment, I have to use my creativity to fulfill THAT assignment.

As it is currently written, I agree we will have to limit it to the top 22. I also think the description is probably based on misinformation.

I agree that the info is misleading because there are more than 22 cards to the deck.

ETA: Without expert editing, people are going to have to have costumes sitting around and a lot of space and props! LOL

Not intending to be a downer but I echo some of the other sentiments here that I find it weird it's not advanced or, even better, expert. It's an otherworldly theme with very grounded presentation techniques available. I don't know how to use the expert techniques, so I wouldn't have entered anyway, but it seems like a challenge suited to that.

That's what I was thinking too. Your base is the 22 cards, but within those cards are a number of themes, key words and ideas....

The term 'typical' can be stretched i think. (i.e ignored). Like the Fairy Tale challenge i'd say it is just as valid to interpret the concept as it is the existing models. (as true with actual divination as well IMHO)

1-The Wayward Taxi
2-The Disgraced Surgeon
3-The Mopped Brow
4-The Candle
5-The Disguised Hourglass
6-The Nose
7- The Broken Idol
8- The Gardener's Silent Husband
9- Vellum
10- Hair
11- The Slow Kiss
12- The Cornered Miscreant
13- The Skinned Fish
14- The Cupped Hand Of Oil
15- The Fetish
16- The Horse
17- The Paper Scissors
18- Fall
19- Entitlement
20-The Tide
21-Entropy

The Queen Of Worms
The Knight Of Glass
The King Of Saliva
The Princess Of Hammers

Little known fact:

There were originally 23 cards, but one was ultimately eliminated due to an unfortunate incident between a great King and his Jester....

It was named.... The Shoehorn

it would be good if it was advanced edit and templates were allowed.

I have rolled the dice and consulted my Ouija board for divination. Crystal ball soothsaying aside, I sense that my stars are in alignment. My wife suggested I consult today's horoscope, March 8, 2011 for Aquarius. Obviously, I need to act on the basis of this outlook:

March 08, 2011
Daily Horoscope for Aquarius
"Things are getting just a little bit stranger — and yes, that is possible. You need to step up your game a bit so you can handle whatever is coming down. Things are looking up for you and your people!"

Additionally, my understanding of Augury caused me to observe a flock of Mountain Bluebirds migrating into my glacial valley. They were vocalizing loudly, while flying West into a snowstorm. If that isn't a sign, I don't know what is.

So, my challenge entry is "in". May it be destiny guided to its preordained fate.

Sigh...was pondering last night while trying to sleep and came up with a good idea. Can I pull it off in the four hours between getting home from work and rollover? Hmmm...probably not. Maybe I'll try.
