The description says:
"Take a photograph inspired by 1 of the 22 cards ( reference) found in a typical Tarot Card deck. "

Just to be clear there are more than 22 cards in a Tarot deck. The 22 cards in the Tarot deck in the reference are only the major arcana.

There are 78 cards in a deck....a deck has 4 suits (called the minor arcana); usually pentacles, swords, wands and cups; along with the major arcana.

Thanks for that info. I may go look up some others so I have ideas in mind.

I am used to not playing with a full deck, but I would not mind more options. Do you know a reference that lists all of the cards?

plus I finally got the link to work - they have an excellent resource on hundreds if not thousands of decks

I think the challenge description might need some correction, since there are far more than the 22 major arcana. I would think it unreasonable to limit someone from entering a "Knight of swords" because it is not one of those top 22. It still suits the spirit of the challenge, IMO.

Won't be mucking with such demonic paraphernalia in order to take a photo.

Glad there are two options.

Yeah I think I agree. Unless the description is changed to say "any tarot cards," I don't think there is any point at looking beyond the 22 listed.

I wish this was advanced editing!

But that's your assignment, to figure out a shot to take with the criteria given.

I've started looking at these challenges as if they were a photography client, asking for specific things. If my client asked me for a shot using one of the 22 cards as a reference, I wouldn't immediately start looking beyond the 22 cards for ideas. That's my assignment, I have to use my creativity to fulfill THAT assignment.

I have quite a few ideas going on for this. Except most of them require an advance editing rule. I think basic would do just fine. You can take a basic-rules portrait of someone dressed as any of those characters, but I doubt how much you can bring out of the somewhat magical/mythical/whatever effect that the actual graphics on the cards has. It would have been better if we were allowed to play more with the editing.

As it is currently written, I agree we will have to limit it to the top 22. I also think the description is probably based on misinformation.

You all are probably right about just using the 22 cards. I just wanted to make sure people who weren't familar with the cards but were curious about them knew that there were more than 22 cards in the deck.

More fuel for thought.
The description says "Take a photograph inspired by 1 of the 22 cards"

Do you think that means were supposed to set up a shot to look as much like it can by looking at the card or are you to be inspired by the card?
For instance....the Chariot....in my mind that could be my car.
....Strength....could that be a picture of my son working out?
....The Fool....could that be a picture of Art? LOL

I'm taking the word "inspired" and thinking it means just that. So for example, "lovers" could be a black and white of two nude bodies embracing. I think if it was to look like the card, it would say "replicate as best you can, one of the 22 cards."

Although I bet you would blow the minds of everyone here if you could take a fantastic shot that looked really close to one of the actual cards themselves.

hmm..something to think about!
