A few months ago I asked for help regarding color correction. I had just hit a brick wall and you know, it made me do some experimenting.

I have a few new presets in Aperture now, I rarely ever have a need for photoshop since Im getting it all knocked out easily :)

Anyway, I have this new preset that I worked hard on and I really like it. What do you think?

At first I liked it for using on my street images on Skid Row because it was dirty.

But, I tried it on last nights shoot and it worked well on the females as well. I guess it depends on the mood, and the lighting.

No, he's using Apple's Aperture instead of Photoshop. He has created a preset that generates this sort of color profile. (In photoshop, it would probably be an action.)

Very nice work, Matthew.

Very nice, any chance you want to share the preset? :)

Superb stuff. I use Aperture and I've never thought in terms of producing some pre-sets.

"This works in Aperture, but Im more than sure you can apply it in Lightroom or iPhoto if you wanted. Im also sure that you could set this up as an action in Photoshop as well."

You probably could, but it has precise analogues in ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) so you could set all these adjustments up as a preset in ACR and go from there no problem. For those who aren't aware of it, you can open TIFF and JPG files in ACR as well. In fact, I recommend that you do so; even when I am shooting JPG (which is very rare) I route my processing through ACR.

ETA: nice explanation, thanks :-)

First let me say that I really like the results; of course part of it has to do with the fact that you do really nice portraiture ;-)
It might not actually be very to duplicate in Lr. Aperture is ahead of Lr at this point in that Lr does not have RGB curves - I know, incredulous looks, but it is true.

Playing around with something similar, but the subject's backlit in this shot so I can't get the same highlight gleam. Overall maybe a little dark, Color palette's nice to my eyes. This in ACR from a RAW original.

And yeah, that's Whiterook :-)

I believe you will be able to achieve the same affect even with luminosity curves.

Thats a great shot Robert. You are right, you are able to definitely set this up in ACR

One thing I want to incorporate with my tutorials is the use of light is vital to your shot. Dont take crappy photos, thats what my signature should be
