There have been many threads along the lines of ... "Where have the masters gone?"

I submit they are still here.

Who is a master ... someone with persistence, someone who participates over the long term, someone who studies and purposively attempts to improve, someone who helps others when asked and other times independently. Often the masters are silent masters - folks who you'll never see in rants or in forum threads. Sometimes they are edgy and gruff; they fail to suffer fools gracefully. But above all, masters are folks who "show up," who "stick around." They are "here to play." And they exhibit a love of DPC, a love of this community.

To these masters I dedicate my once and only "Body of Work" Award. I want to recognize the DPC folks who have submitted to 200 or more challenges. I may have missed a few ... and if I've missed YOU, please tell and I'll add you below.

So here is my award to the Masters, for the body of work they have contributed here. To those I recognize, place this badge in your profile with honor and accept my personal thanks. I have learned tremendously from you!

Everyone else, please ... look at their photos - they are collectively and individually wonderful. Please thank them for their contribution to this site. Please recognize them in this thread for how they have impacted you and your photography. And please click on and open my award for these terrific, wonderful, eclectic photogs. Pride of authorship aside, I think it is a beautiful and fitting tribute. This is a chance to stand on the shoulders of giants and thank them for their inspiration.

This is a "love in" thread. Show these great great photogs some love!

How cool is this?!

Thank you!

I am both shocked & joyous in finding myself on a list amongst such exalted company.
I fear my main contribution is the fact I've been around so long (both on DPC & the planet). And the 2 main reasons I front up every year are thus:

1. I'm still learning
2. I enjoy it

Thank you for this kind post.

A lovely award, I will add it to my profile page. Thank you!!

What a wonderful list!

I recognize most of the names. Some I don't -- so I'm looking forward to checking out their work!

So many of these people have made a difference in my own journey -- but I'd really like to specifically recognize a few that have made a tremendous difference.

Yo_spiff - what a tremendously giving, wonderful friend! Always available for advice. Incredible handle on how DPC works.

bear_music - also always there for you. Awesome knowledge of photoshop. I've learned an amazing amount from him! (I'm even remembering vignettes and gradients on my own, sometimes, bear!)

posthumous - for the team suck thread and the posthumous awards. I'm still too much of a realist, but I'm appreciating the abstract, funky, moody world so much more than when I first started. The posthumous thread (as it has been since I started here) has given me a chance to really explore a type of photography so different from my own.

melethia - what a gracious, kind person with an incredible eye for street photography (and pigeons!)

scalvert & generalE -- for being an active voice for the SC. There are certainly many more SC members who actively, generously give their time in a pretty much thankless position. But these are the two that I've been involved with the most. Thanks for you work and support!

ursula - I was on a wonderful DPL team, who were all extremely helpful. But Ursula taught me so many wonderful photoshop techniques. I'm so grateful for her mentoring!

So many others on this list have inspired me with their incredible photography. I'll have to save that for another time.

Thanks for the recognition. I'm just a glutton for punishment is all it really is.

Yes, thank you! I have to agree with Spiffy here. LOL! Lovely new bling for my profile page too!

That's very kind of you, confusing one (and Wendy). I'll echo what Steve says, though: I'm just a glutton for punishment. Roughly one out of 50 times I get a virtual reward, and that keeps me coming back for more :-)

Wow! This is exciting. Thank you so much for the recognition. Like MichaelC,I find
DPC a wonderful site for gaining new perspectives and having a lot of fun while doing so.
I am most excited to be sitting next to Ursula, one of my greatest inspirations.
Thanks again.

Not that I consider myself in the ranks of this list of Masters, but the thread did encourage me to go look and guess what!!! Challenges Entered: 200
I actually can't believe it myself!!

Congrats everyone. I'm happy to notice how many names I do recognize and adore.

Ditto for me - although I fear it could simply be an addiction in my case. :-)

OK and now I will walk around kicking myself for the rest of the day for not paying attention. :-/ (And this is something my youngest continually gets in trouble for at school. Guess he gets it honest.)

A BIG THANK YOU TO Dr.Confuser for publicly recognizing these folks for their labor of love to this community.

I think I've abandoned gluttony and have become an epicure for punishment ... :-)

I really can't think of a better list to be on -- thanks Dr. C!

Agreed! You've assembled a mighty list of DPCers here--recognition well deserved.
02/17/2011 04:11:22 PM · #24
Thanks for the nod, DrC. I don't deserve to be included in this list as I am no Master. I have sucked and bumbled my way along within DPC for almost seven years, I guess this is my only qualification.

But, thanks again:)

Well, I'll be darned. Thank you!

That's a nicely designed and very thoughtful award and it now sits proudly on my page.
