I just heard about DPContest.com today from a post here at DPChallenge. So, I don't know much about it. What do you guys think about that site and the way challenges are run, etc ... ?

Just glancing over dpcontest's systems and rules... I think its nice that the allow some spot editing to fix stuff like red-eye, but in general I like the way dpchallenge is run better.

DPContest is a large, varied and very popular site with some extraordinarily good photographers as regulars. Glancing over the rules hardly qualifies anyone to say that one site is "run better" than the other.

The rule in dpc I like most is that any editing is allowed so long as it is not generally noticeable. That's a rule that understands photography well.

the dpchallenge site is better organized and more user friendly than the dpcontest site for sure...

That, of course, is a matter of opinion.

Dpcontest is organized DIFFERENTLY than dpchallenge because it has a different mandate -- 10 daily contests rather than just two or three weekly ones. The ability to manage one's photographs within the site is far more sophisticated than here (where it is essentially non-existent) because it is needed for the structure of the contests.

As for "user-friendly", I have never had any problems finding my way around dpcontest. Your mileage may vary.

Oranges should not be compared to apples in my opinion.

navigating the discussion threads at dpcontest is a nightmare for me... it's not nearly as easy as here...

as for managing photos, you are right. we don't have the need to manage photos here tho...

I can't figure out the voting there. I don't like that there seems to be some kind of first-come, first-served council of elders that just makes snap decisions about photos from some secret lair. I like knowing what my competition is, and I DEFINITELY like the fact that regular joe schmoe's are entitled to voice an opinion and VOTE here.

I signed up for dpcontest, but I'm kind of regretting it. The chance to win prizes is nice, though, but it makes you wonder about who the heck is deciding who wins....

The contests there are always the same general themes. "Committed volunteers" vote on the daily entries (they sign up for a month at a time), and then members get to vote among those "nominations" for the prize-winning photo-of-the-month awards.
I think (with organization) it is possible to enter several photo contest sites, but it's probably really hard to really be a part of the "community" at more than one...
