Film swap with Brian bvy
02/26/2012 10:47:14 PM · #127
Anyone up for doing this again this year?
02/26/2012 11:20:48 PM · #128
My team with VitaminB, sort of "blew it" last year when this was tried.

I was too wrapped up in other things to take care of checking out a camera for film shooting without light leaks to get my part done. I guess it didn't matter too much though, because my co-shooter Brad has not posted on the DPC forums now for 12 months.

I would be willing to give this idea a second shot. I have an old Canon AE1 Program and some FD glass for it to shoot with now. It would be good if each participant would shoot a roll and send it to his teammate, who would then shoot over it for the second layer of images.
That way you would have everyone getting to do the first pass on one roll, and the second pass on a second roll.

An advantage to this would be that team mate A could shoot landscape, while team mate B shoots protrait, then after the swap, A could shoot portrait, and B shoot landscape, and the image overlays would be oriented the same as the "first pass" images. We would have to make sure that the portrait shots were done with "shutter button up" through the roll to make it work out right.

If we do this it would be a good idea to look back through this thread to refresh our memories about how it was done, and also to see what kinds of images worked out best and how they were shot.

I'm definitely in. I'd shoot 35mm again, and I think it'd be fun to not worry about lining things up and shooting several rolls.

Bumping this for a few reasons...

There was some recent interest judging by the last few posts.

Tom ( tph1) is back. Yay!

And I now have film from both bspurgeon and tnun to double expose and process. So I'll have results soon myself.

Swap on!

Hey this thread is still alive! Looks like I deleted my early photos. Oh well, sorry about that. Love these swaps and I am willing to trade with anyone that is interested... 35mm, 120; Could even try 4x5 if anybody wants to do that? (You know you want a big camera, right?)

03/05/2012 07:58:08 PM · #132
Send me the camera and I'll shoot some 4x5! :) Anything is fine by me Tom. I just started using a Mamiya C22 TLR, just developed the first rolls last night. I'm open to using that for 120 or 35mm with my rangefinder which I use frequently. It's currently loaded with a roll of Delta 3200, which will take me a few weeks to complete.

Brian and I had some interesting mishaps with cheap 120 film in a Holga. Paper backing was imprinted on every frame (see several posts prior to this).

I've got a 35mm camera or three, a 6x4.5 and 6x6 120 camera. Somewhere, floating around is also an old Kodak 120 folder.

I've been lusting after a Pentax 645 for awhile now, but the funds just haven't been there....

Do you all think we should start a separate thread or continue here or how do we want to do this?

I say keep it here. We can always request a title change for the thread.

I crave a 6 x 4.5 too. The format is a little out of the ordinary (for me anyway). I keep looking at the Fuji GS645 and GA645's. But I'm in the same boat... seems the kids need new shoes.

I got some interesing results last year so would be happy to do it all again with anyone who's interested :)

I've got a 4X5 speed graphic that I have never fired in anger. No darkroom to develop film, or print it. Camera/film holders I have,

I have no film camera at the moment but could easily get one and play with you all.
I would use 35mm film.

This is a pretty neat idea. I'm in for the next round. 35mm here.

OK. I'm in with bspurgeon for a 120 film exchange. And hopefully with ambaker on a few sheets of 4x5.

I do have one question, that I did not see addressed in the thread.

When we shoot do you shoot for normal exposure, or do you back it down by a stop so that the total exposure is correct?

I have had the best luck with each partner shooting at half the rated speed. Anybody else??

Ben and I are swapping 400 speed film -- both using an Olympus XA2. On that camera you set the speed manually. We both set our cameras to 800. Then I can do drop-off processing without any special instructions.

As Tom said, swapping 120, both 6x6.

I have a Fuji 6x9 rangefinder on loan from a friend. Anybody else have a 6x9 to shoot?

Or, medium fomat pinhole?

Sheesh. That's right... Not half the speed but twice the speed. My mistake.

I've got some non C41 35mm BW film if anybody is interested in doing that, but I'm also open to just getting some cheap color film like I did last time. I leave for vacation this Friday, so if anybody is interested in doing this, I could shoot a round of landscapes, but I need to know to bring my F100 along.

I seem to have a back log at the moment! Ben and I have results to share. Stay tuned...
