Just did my first round of voting. Some excellent shots, really impressive. Gave out one 10, six 9's, fifteen 8's, thirty four 7's, and only five 2's.
Will come back again to review my votes, most likely upwards ;-)

A lot of superb entries. There is more good stuff than I have seen before. Hey, I am new here.lol

Yep, quite a few great shots in this challenge. I hope mine does well.

Hmmm, I must have gotten one of your 2's then. I'm sitting at 4.xx after 8 votes.

4.4545 after 11 votes. *shrugs* After what happened with both my "Extraordinary" and my "June Free Study," I'm not gonna get worked up about it. Both had/have steadily risen since the initial voting stage, so no worries here. It's a good picture technically and all, it may just have a bit of a snag at one point, which I didn't realize until after and can't fix really.

my first vote received was a 2...thanks, Andrew...lol.

Yeah, like my pic is an 8. But all you voters did not really look at it. It seems I got a 2. I at at 5.333. lol

I really spent a lot of time on mine. Started out with a 6 after two votes and no have a 3.6 after ten. Pretty discouraging. Maybe I'll start taking pictures of babies and flowers.

4.9xxx .... Early days yet, I'm happy with my entry this time and being a member of this site and recieving tips from some great photographers has helped me improve.....IMHO

could you imagine how painful it would be if you couldn't see your score until after the challenge were over?? I sure would miss the agony of the ups and downs.

*hugs* With my "June Free Study" I started with a 6.0 after 1 vote and then promptly dropped to a 5.0 after 7 and 8 votes. It's now back up to a 5.8404. There is hope!

I was very disappointed in this challenge. Between some corny titles, and unappetizing food shots, I thought many could've done better.

Just my humble opinion. I think sitting out on challenges where you really don't have a good idea, or a good capture isn't excersized enough. While I'm all for improving with practise, I just don't think people should _force_ themselves to enter each challenge regardless of the quality of their photos.

Currently at 3.9333 after 15 votes, and I think dorping. Even though a photographer who shot one of the compaings for the actual product really liked it :)

15 votes and 4.7333.......sigh.......tot it would be a better results...oh well......

Who says they are forced to enter?

Anway, once again, I'm starting on the slow track...4.7xx. But then I started that way with Extraordinary, and finished at 5.5x, so who knows?

You don't think people force themselves to enter each and every challenge regardless if they have a photo that fits it? I'm not saying a lot of people do, but there are definately some.

I don't think people should force themselves to vote on every challenge either.

I guess for once I am not alone. My entry is doing better than some, and that is new! I was disappointed with the entries also. Not that there aren't great ones, but not as great as usual.

Perhaps there are those who "force" themselves to enter, but then again, perhaps that's part of their process. Maybe they learn something by working against a deadline, on a challenge they wouldn't have taken on otherwise, etc. and do the best they can with it. Perhaps the discipline of entering an image even when their muse isn't sitting on their shoulder is good.

I'm not trying to argue, but I do think that people enter the challenges because they want to enter them, and not because they think they "have to." And sometimes, what I think is a lousy idea (on their part) was a great idea to them, and vice versa.

I can definately testify to the vice versa. Many of my bright ideas and great executions have been met with a stony indifference by the DPC gang. Anyway, it's late, I take your point, I hope you take mine.

Cheers!

I resemble that remark! Yes - I do indeed make it a personal challenge to a) Come up with an idea for the challenge b) Set it up c) Shoot and possibly re-shoot it... and enter.

To me it's like assignment photography where the photographer is just given "mushy" ideas and the client wants images for the idea.

Thinking up the idea - and trying to be sure that 20 or 30 others won't be submitting the same thing - is a critical creative part of the process.

I feel this is "way different" from looking at all the pictures you've taken the past few days - and then deciding which one(s) can be given a title that says its "A picture that describes the word ancient..."

I entered for fun this time. I took a random shot, I liked it, and I shared it. Score reflects it - 4.00 right now. Laugh. :) Oh well, it's always good to hear some constructive criticism (hint hint, go comment, all you wise people!), and it's always fun to participate in a challenge, though this is only my third.

And, GASPGASP - no chinchilla in the shot this time!

just done with my voting.....all of it....my score still at 4.7xxx hope for an improvement :)
07/07/2004 02:22:03 AM · #24
Man, I really misjudged my entry. I didn't think it was a winner, but I thought it was a decent image. I'm currently on 4.3 :(
07/07/2004 02:38:36 AM · #25
Yeah, I'm with y'all. I thought my photo was really good though- I put a lot more effort into it. I've been a slump lately, getting a lot of 4s and I thought maybe this would be my first 6 but right now I'm at 4.8 :(
