similar to the book thread, i searched and didn't see one for movies so i'm starting one.

to start, watched two yesterday...

Inception - 10 (although not quite as good as the first time i saw it in the theater, but still great)

Tangled - 8 (We have officially gotten to the point where animated characters have more heart and depth and than 90% of their real life counterparts.)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows - didn't even realize that 2.5 hrs had passed. Can't wait for part 2.

9/10

Saw RED also, funny with a bit of action thrown in, 7/10. Not Lethal Weapon grade but worth a visit to the cheap seats theatre.

Tron: Legacy - 8.5/10 Must see in 3D, I felt like I was on a roller coaster. Dragged on in parts, but very well done in others.

Inception (via Blue Ray) 10/10.

Excellent thinking movie and tons of great visual candy. (Just pause it if you have to take a break. You miss anything and you're toast. :P )

I saw this in 3D. It didn't have much affect on me at all. Maybe IMAX 3D would be better. I'd still rate it 8/10.

An Education - A good coming of age movie, but not great. 6/10?... maybe.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows was definitely more entertaining - didn't mind the length - only read some of the books and saw the first couple of movies but I still enjoyed it. 7/10... I guess.

Visually stunning.

Plot's a little thin but still entertaining ... it does a nice job with continuity with the original Tron. CG transformation of Jeff Bridges is terrific.

Worth paying theatre prices - definitely worth it in 3D!!!

As an aside ... I'm a biker and I NEED a Light Cycle!

True Grit-

A Coen brothers special-Good dialogue, unexpected twists, unflinching camera eye on violent interludes
and no shortage of dark humor.
Outstanding performances by Jeff Bridges and especially by Hailee Steinfeld, who absolutely steals
every scene she's in. They are both deserving of Academy Awards for this one!

10 out of 10!

The Machinist is definitely an odd movie but very good. Showcases how insane Christian Bale is, as well. What's REALLY crazy is looking at what he looked like in The Machinist compared to Batman Begins...

I've seen a splurge of movies this past bit.

True Grit- I haven't seen the original, since I hate John Wayne. From the previews, and my knowledge of the Coen Brother's catalogue, this movie didn't turn out quite like I was expecting. Didn't build tension like a quality Western should (IMO), and was a bit more family friendly than I think the subject should be. Excellent dialogue throughout, and solid acting though.
7/10
Tron- I loved the concept of the original, and accepted that its shortcomings were largely due to the inability to depict things, as well as keeping a family movie from edging into the hard sci fi category. The new one is glorious visually (saw the 3D version), yet still suffers from plot shortcomings and inadequacies. This movie excels as eye candy. Come into it not expecting Disney to push the boundaries of plot and concept into a new realm and you'll leave very pleased. Just don't expect it to be something it isn't.
6/10

Black Swan
The first preview I saw of this didn't really look all that interesting, striking me more as a neurotic ballerina flick (which, to some extent, it is). My friend sorta sold me on going to see it though, and we both were greatly impressed. It takes on notes of a horror movie at various times, but doesn't trap itself in just that one genre, either.
9/10

ETA: ha, I thought this was the old thread... not a new one. hm.

I haven't been watching any movies lately but I have been watching all the seasons of Lost. That show deserves a 10/10 for sure.

unfortunately that show set the bar to high for itself. The least season tries really hard to resolve everything, and without revealing any spoilers even the final episode had set up to be epic and then... the last 10 mins or so ruined what could have been great.

But looking back, the characters and acting on that show is what made it great. Its was more about the journey the characters went on as to way we all loved the show.

As disappointed i was, I'm glad i went on the ride. I truly miss that show.

Gotta say I really enjoyed Scott Pilgrim versus the World. If you don't like "quirky", skip it, but otherwise it was great.

Bought an Apple TV recently so have watch a few recently:

Kick Ass - 10/10 Much better than I expected - laugh out loud gory goodness.

Knight and Day - 2/10 Someone somewhere should be ashamed.

Pride and Prejudice (2005) - 9/10 Beautifully made, wonderful acting.

Crazy Heart - 7/10 Quite low key but very credible - Jeff Bridges can sing! Who knew?
