Thanks spiritualspatula .. so are their any competiitons or editing styles that allow composite work? It's another area I want to improve on and it would be cool if we had some

AS I understand it an "average" score of 5.5 is good for a FS right?

Damn and Blast, I didn't realise it was the 1st today. I missed the deadline. This would have been my entry:

Expert editing challenges allow for this, but they are pretty few and far between. Side challenges are probably your best bet for that style. Side Challenges
They are not voted on (generally), and are largely used as a learning tool with less strict rules, while encouraging comments and often experimentation. I would highly recommend them.

This was 5.2 at 10 votes so I like the way it's heading. It's probably about where I expected it so if it continues to go up I'll be very happy.

*sigh* I'm always happy to be over 6 -- so I'm glad of that. But I was really excited about this one -- thought it was one of my top free studies ever.

I think I over-estimated.

no seagulls for me, this time around. However -- I'm hoping to start a movement! And that's what it is, the Alice's Restaurant Seagull Movement, and
all you got to do to join is enter a seagull next time the free study rolls around.

The Ars movement? I don't know if I like the sound of that, Wendy.

I got one comment! Well.. it says one comment, and the 'comment' is there but it's totally blank. Wonder if I should mark it helpful. :P

WTH? That's about a full point higher than I was expecting to find. I'm not saying it won't finish a full point lower, but this was a nice surprise.

Went to bed with a 5.25 so I'm pretty happy for the turnaround. Hope it continues to climb!

maybe they are confusing our images. I was expecting a 5.4 and have a 6.4

Serious;y, though, I've learned not to expect anything at DPC. I've had just as many shots confuse me for how high they scored as I have shots that confused me by their low scores.

My first free study.... 4.7!!! seems my time was spent taking uninteresting, uninspiring and unimpressive images.
So much effort for such a low score. Obviously I just don't get it... Extremely disappointing.

Well, I think the Free Study does take a little time to get your head around - after a while you begin to get a sense of what will do well. Some people (including me (at least sometimes)) will try to pick shots that might do well, others take the higher road and just shoot and share what they like. Some people like to shoot (and are good at shooting) what scores well.

I think that if you want to do 'well' in the FS there is certainly a 'game' to play - it's up to you whether you want to go down that road.

Certainly don't get too despondent or think that your score is an accurate marker of interest or inspiration. It's just a marker of alignment with expectation - and for the FS the expectation is often for something technically pristine but quite vanilla (ducking now).

5.1 right now with 25 votes and 1 comment.
I like the shot, and my one comment so far does too, I think. My pre-challenge comments hoped it'd go above 5, so good start so far!

Expected to wake up to a low 5 and was quite surprised to see this:
