With a smile on my face I am happy to announce that last night will be the last time I use the wide angle Adapter for my 18-55. Designed for film, the quality of image is bad but it was just too much fun not to play with. It gave some very cool shots, so much fun that I had to overlook the severe quality issues. The wider the F Stop, the worse it got. It was worth about $60 and it is one of those "you get what you pay for"

Here is an old shot with it

This one from tonight

and the last shot I will ever take with this lens adapter
//www.longislandwallpapers.com/photos/1103992854_LXtrk-L.jpg
and it will be retired to Moose's bag for him to play with...(Remember, Tripod and stop
it WAYYY down Moose!)

On Monday I recieved my new Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 Manual Focus Aspherical Fisheye Lens for Canon. On Full frame it is 180 DEGREES!!!! on my camera it will be 170across and less vertically. Can You Say COCKPIT SHOTS????? YEA BABY!

The lens itself is branded with 4 different names. This is sold under this brand for $299.00 and is a STEAL! Quality is ok wide open but when you stop it down it is suppose to be tack sharp. I have seen reviews that show full sized photos when I was looking into it and could not believe how close the quality was to some of the +$1000.00 Len's photos that were posted. If I had tons of extra cash, I do not think I would buy the Sigma over this. I am really excited.....

Here is my new cheapo lens

My First shots with it....HDR and a crappy one at that, but it was CCccold!

Will be nice to see some examples, especially 100% crops from the periphery... I'm curious, did you consider the Peleng 8mm as well? It's in the same price range - well, slightly more.

As an aside, I'm actually shocked at the current prices on the Peleng, now at just over $360. I bought mine for about $210. Of course, that was in 2004, i believe.

Looks like a fun lens. Congrats! Can't wait to see a few more samples.

From the one sample shot it hardly seems like a fisheye at all. More like a super duper wide. Really interested to see what this can put out. Even if it's mud in the corners it'll be a lot of fun to shoot with.

It is crazy at 180 degrees on a full frame, But on my 1.6 is lacks the fishe eye effect. It is still AWESOME as I can not do much better than this on a 1.6 crop and can not do anything close with any of the major brands. Here are some of the numbers for len's

Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 x 1.6= 10.4mm sells for $300
EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 x1.6= 16-35.2mm sells for $760
Tokina AF 11-16mm f2.8 x 1.6= 17.6-25.6mm sells for $600

Here is an unedited image right from the camera

Please Note that the focus was set to just aft of the prop so the prop should be in focus....edges were out of
focus and does not show sharpness

(this was holding a monopod 10 feet over my head one handed)

I'm really impressed with that hangar picture. Nothing looks that good unedited from my camera. Wonderful perspective. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Some more from tonight

I am really loving this lens. Not as practical as a 50MM, but when when you need to go really wide, it is
great!

that is neck braking wide

First of all... those are ALL fun!! It makes me smile to see all of the fun you're having with your new toy.

Second.... WHO is Len???

What what belongs to him?

You keep saying "len's"... and you never told us who Len is.

Oh wait! You're meaning "lens", aren't you? The apostrophe threw me off.

Sorry.

Ahahaha, Please do not tell Len I took his lens ;)

Some great shots there Fred !

woah, looks awesome.

i checked for it on amazon and the opteka version is only available from 3rd party sellers (that charge for shipping to hawaii) and not from amazon. but...
there is one of the other branded ones called Rokinon. it's offered by amazon and it's $263

edit:
i just re-read the listing on amazon and it's stated as 8mm, i wonder if it's the same one or not.

Hey man, you've got me considering owning one of these... Could you/ would you - as a service to us (hehe) post a full-size unedited shot so we can see what this thing really delivers at a 1-1 level?
