I'm not sure I'm allowed to do that, but I got a really constructive comment today from that guy:
gregsnyder

Going on his/her profile, I noticed he/she never entered any challenge, and that the comments he/she makes are always as constructive as the one I got... I let you judge by yourself...

Is the site council not supposed to monitor votes and comments to avoid such stupid behaviours, clearly evidencing the use of fake accounts by poor photographers who need them to gain some places in the challenges they enter?

OK, maybe I haven't watch all the comments before thinking about a fake account, and maybe it's not. But it's still strange, isn't it?

I enter a challenge right away but know others who lurked for a long time. If I wasn't married to another member I would have waited to enter for a while.

What do you want the SC to do?

Bizzarely, my buddy and I were discussing this very issue earlier. We thought it was probably not in our interests to post on the forum about it. However, seeing as someone else has noticed, this page makes interesting reading. Not sure what all the .5's are.

I was going to query via PM... I can't see this thread lasting long lol

Well, I don't know. But I think I paid for them to think about that! = )

But I don't think he is doing anything wrong. A comment that only says "6.5", "4,5" or "DNMC" could be constructive enough for some. And as you see on your link, many of the photogs marked them as useful.

I really don't think the SC can dictate what needs to be in a comment for it to be constructive for all photogs.

Last I knew, none of us were receiving paychecks for this :)

To answer your question... there is no violation of site rules here. He is free to use the comment field to display his vote if he wants. If you can give us a specific rule that he's breaking, please let us know. What evidence do you have that this is a fake account...?

Further... if you have suspicions about someone's activities, you should contact us directly about them, rather than calling them out in the forums. If anyone is borderline breaking rules, it appears to be you...

Remember that the site council are unpaid and give up their time for the sake of the site. I'm sure if you have a great idea to deal with tools like this guy they would consider the idea, but as long as they can't see anything weird with his voting, or signs of a ghost account, what can they do?

Maybe they need this link Giving feedback

I agree that echoing one's score (fictional fractional part aside) in the comments field doesn't make for the most "helpful" feedback. But there are a few comments in there that are a little beefier. And that a voter thinks your entry is DNMC counts for something.

He's cast a sizable number of votes and has an average that suggests no malintent. That counts for something. A little quirky in his approach maybe, but I think he's legit.

General frustrated comment: I hate being told to remember that the site council isn't paid. Why aren't they paid? We pay... so why isn't anyone ever answerable to us?

Seems like you are just in time, we just need to determine who is the witch, or if we should burn them all and sort out guilt later.

Calm down Alan.. you'll give yourself a heart attack :)

toutatis ...for 475 votes cast with a 5.1 average given...doesn't seem too bad to me, as Brian said, maybe quirky, but seems legit enough :)

FWIW, I've wondered this myself...

I mean, we have what? 1600 or so paying members?

That's about $40,000 a year, actually enough money to provide at least some support..

Then again, I'm not sure what the overall cost of operation is, but I would think that 40k would leave some serious wiggle room..

Just my opinion.. Not hating on anyone, just seems a little odd that there is so much cash flow and yet it seems that this place is run on a shoestring..

What sort of support are you demanding that you're not getting?

I get no money from this site, but I take donations for gasoline and legal defense. I also freelance if anyone has a village in mind and can afford me.

I never thought we'd reach the point where leaving really constructive comments was a stupid behavior! :-(
