Hello. I've narrowed my new camera search to one of four: Canon EOS 550D (aka EOS Rebel T2l,Kissx4), Nikon D3100, Sony SLT-A55, or Pentax K-X. At this point I can't determine which one to pursue. I would appreciate any help I can get. Any suggestions? Thanks very much.

Are you able to stretch your money to a Nikon D7000?
If so, it's currently (in my opinion) the best affordable dslr available.

Have you ever used any of these manufacturer's cameras before? The button layouts and ergonomics really vary a lot, so if you've already used one system and are accustomed to button layout that might be of concern. If you haven't, I would recommend you go check them out in person. You may find certain models are more difficult for your hand size. I have large hands and that was something that I immediately noticed. If you can get your hands on them, I would definitely do so.
It's worth noting, too, that you may want to consider what sorts of lenses you may want to use in the future, since you commit yourself to a system, not just the camera body.

You may also want to research lenses and accessories of each to see the price/quality/quantity differences. I believe Nikon and Canon are pretty close in regards to all of that but I am not sure on the others.

I agree with previous people. Go to a store and handle the cameras, take some notes to help you choose with no rush when you return home, have a look at possible lenses (differences, prices, third party, etc.).
Also it helps to know what kind of photog you are, that is : Do you shot mostly macro ? Or panoramic ? Wildlife ? Portraits ?
There are great lenses and you surely can find reviews in DPC forums.
