I have a job interview in Portland, OR next week and will have from 4pm Tuesday until around 11am Wednesday free. If there are any DPCers out that way who want to meet up lemme know. I won't be offended if you want to call it ' a date ' lol

Won't be there, but you are lucking out being free during both morning and evening "golden hour" shifts! Lots of great bridges and river settings to shoot up there -- have fun!

I've never been, but you may want to check out the 24 hour Church of Elvis.

Duh... Oregon. Hello...? :)

Actually, it only rains twice a year in Oregon, once for seven months, and again for five.

Rain or not - feels good to be getting an interview. I have a pre-screening phone interview with a place in Green Bay WI tomorrow afternoon, then the in person interview in Oregon next week. Crossing my fingers something comes through.

Where in Green Bay (if you don't mind me asking?) I grew up there.

Dudes, if you think Portland is bad for rain, try Seattle. When I moved to Portland I thought it was pretty nice. :) Eugene is even better!

Neat. I actually lived in Allouez as a kid, and recently drove through there. A lot has changed over the years, but it's still a nice place.

Hi Linda, I am just on the other side of Portland, in Vancouver, Washington. Portland is a great place. You are visiting at the worst time of year when it comes to the rain. November through April is pretty rainy....but, yes there are sun breaks. There are quite a few DPCers that live around these parts. Can't beat the landscape around here.......and if your into waterfalls, this is the best place to be. Hope the job interview goes well, good luck and let us know if you will be moving here!

Thank you for adding something positive about Portland! I was really starting to regret this interview before even going to it with all the negative feedback about the area.

Hey, you were hoping they were wrong when they forecasted rain. We're just being honest and telling you like it is. It does rain a lot in Oregon, and Washington too (but who cares about them <shrug>). That's why we have big beautiful forests, rainforests even, and big rivers and little streams, and lots 'n lots of pretty waterfalls. If it didn't rain a lot, this place would be a big desert, sort of like that weird country down south of the border.

But heck, you're not gonna let a little rain stop you, are you? :)

The PNW likes to keep itself a secret, so you won't hear them trumpeting their fortune. In my opinion it's one of the greatest areas on earth.

It's kind of funny . . . I visited Seattle a few years back (loved it) and as soon as it was discovered that I was from California, the general response I got in greeting was similar to, "Welcome to Seattle, now go home." I guess Seattle is and has been one of the locations for escaped Californians to land . . . one of these days I, too, shall escape . . . one of these days . . .

Sitting at Detroit Metro waiting to board my 6:06 am flight to Portland. Took a cab here and the driver scared the shit out of me! Hope the pilot flies better than the cabby drove. He flew down a 25mph residential street at 40mph, while looking down at his cell phone and blew the stop sign at the intersection. Then while going down the main roads he tended to drift out of his lane a few times. Got closer to the airport and he drifted right and bounced us off a curb. Thanks Felix.... the Russian cabby. This better not be a sign of how my entire trip is going to be.

LOL - I remember a cab ride in Chicago with an insane Russian driver and a stall on the railroad tracks and a narrow escape.

I'm also a California (San Jose) native living in Seattle since 1990 and I've seen the attitude against Californians going on since I've been here, but it aint that bad - it was mainly due to an influx of people who sold their middle-class rambler for $700k down there and bought a McMansion up here. Of course we're all in the same sinking boat now. ;-)

Hope you have a safer, less eventful rest of the trip, Linda.

When did you move back to Michigan???? My brother lives in Berkley and I'm over there a lot ... we're in Livonia right now ... we should plan an outing!

Yes, we can definitely do an outing! So far the trip to Oregon could be a lot better. Got here early - but sure enough it's raining. Rental car place refused to take my debit card..they will only take a actual credit card which I don't have. I never use credit cards...only debits and have never had an issue before. That was at Budget Rental...so she tells me to go down to Dollar Rental and they will take the debit card. But, Dollar has about 12 people in line and I needed time to get to the hotel so I could clean p for he 2pm interview. So I said screw it, had the free shuttle take me to my hotel room and will take a taxi to the interview, and then a taxi back to my room. Guess I won't see any of Portland while I am here as I can't pay a taxi to drive me around places tomorrow morning before going back to the airport at noon. Not feeling the good karma here ya know.

If you are in downtown Portland, realize that the Max (that little light rail thing) is free within a certain zone (the shaded area below). So you can at least tool around on that if you want. You could visit the Japanese Garden in town or people watch at Pioneer Square, etc. One of them goes out to the airport as well, so you don't have to take a cab if you don't want.
