| I am looking for an underwater camera, or a point and shoot and an underwater housing. I was told to get the canon S95 and a housing, but I dont know if I can spend $400 on a point and shoot. so I am looking for a suggestions? |

I think  JulietNN has some experiences with "under water" cameras ;) |

How deep are you looking to go? That's going to dictate a lot of what your options are. |

| 30-45 feet for this trip but other dives may be alittle deeper |

In that case you're going to have to get a quality enclosure, as none of the out-of-the-box p&s are rated that beyond 10m (that I know of).
There are a ton of different enclosures available, but I'd say that up front you need to understand a housing will probably run you 1-200+ on its own.
Here's the underwater sections for B&H and Adorama.
Housings for different models run different prices. |

| so any suggestions on a point and shoot....... it seems like there are housings for most cameras and I understand they range from 80-200 that is another reason why I am unsure about the s95 |

| I recently suggested a Canon Powershot D10 to my brother who was going on vacation. It met his requirements however it is limited to a depth of 10m (33 feet) and was the deepest capable point and shoot I could find. At this time a housing or not going as deep will probably be your only options. Good luck! |

| Yesterday i was checking out the latest products in my favorite electronic store and i came upon a dslr waterproof casing. It looks sturdy enough to go beyond 10 meters, as the packaging states. It also says that it would fit "any" dslr. The photo of the sample camera looked like a Rebel on kit lens. It costs about US$200 (rough currency conversion). It's made in China :) |

| We have one of the Olympus Toughs, and it's rated to about 30ish feet I think. Went diving in Mexico a bit deeper than that and it held up fine. Fun to have, but not the DSLR quality I'm used to "on the surface" for sure :-) |

| GoPro HD is great. You won't be able to compose any of your shots since there's no LCD screen or anything. |

I second that, The Gopro HD Hero is really a cool camera, Does great and the quality for such a small camera is awesome.

I am actually looking at these units right now trying to decide if the RePlay XD1080 is as good as the GoPro. There is nothing on-line about the newer RePlay XD1080 Cameras, the only info I have is an add handed out at a racing industry trade show ( PRI ) in Decenber. I realy like the RePlay for it's "package" but I think the GoPro might be a better value with the housing and screen ect.
I also found some info on underwater cameras here. There seems to be some reviews and plent of links!
