| Is it normal when you rapid fire on the Rebel XSI it takes awhile to load and you have to wait for like about 1 minute before you can start shooting again? I hope I clairified the question. |

Are you shooting RAW or jpeg? How many shots are you taking before it starts slowing down? And what card are you using?

| No. It's probably the write speed of your SD card. The camera's data buffer can't write fast enough to the card, so you sit there with "BUSY" on the display. |

@ Vawendy - Thanks for your reply! I am shooting in RAW & JPEG and using a 8GB SCHC card. If I upgrade to a D7 will I continue to have this problem?
@ Davis - Thanks for your reply! Yes,... I am constantly waiting on the "BUSY" display and 'missing' all sort of good opportunities. Same question to you,... will I have the same proble with a Canon 7D??? |

The 7D has very large files -- you just have to get a good card.
My SanDisk Ultra card slows down after I take a burst of 7 or so shots.
My SanDisk Extreme card slows down after about a burst of 20.
How many shots are you doing in a row? When I first got the rapid fire, I would take about 20 in a row -- I quickly realized that it was silly, and it's rare that I do more than 5 shots now. I time things careful and use the burst at the appropriate time so that I don't take a chance of things slowing down.

By way of a comparison (not a solution if you like RAW files) switch to jpeg only - you will probably see that the camera will fire a lot longer before getting bogged down. My sony can keep going non-stop in jpg mode, but will bog down if I have RAW+jpg on.
Card speed is of course a factor, but card format is too. It's a while since I saw a comparison but if I recall correctly the fastest compact flash cards are faster than the fastest SDHC cards. If your camera can take dual formats as many can, compact flash may be a better way to go. I'd do some research first though - like I said it's been a while since I saw a comparison, and tech moves on at a rapid rate.
In fact scratch that, just saw a review of a 450D... no compact flash slot.
But yeah, fast ram on a decent SDHC card will be way better than a cheap "generic" card. There are some good sites that compare card against card which may give you an indication. Here's an example comparison from Tom's Hardware |

| I've tried a faster card with RAW+JPEG on my Xsi and it changes very little. That's just a HUGE file to write and it bogs it down. If you are in a situation where you need rapid burst and can't get by without it, shoot only JPEG. |

That depends on the CF cards you buy for the 7D (keep that in mind...Rebels from the 450D up use SD cards, but 50D, 7D, 5DmkII use CF). Again, it's not the camera, but the card inside that's giving you grief. |
