I am sorry if you find this reality offensive. I have this urgency to create an awareness, to share, to record.
Please take care of yourself, make sure you get enough fruit to eat, get enough anti oxidants in your body, and exercise! Go for your check ups.
Don't worry, for me this is a hiccup, not a train smash. I shall overcome. |

You are very brave indeed !
I think that it's very positive to share your experience, for you and for us.
When we are well, sometimes we forget that everything can change in a short moment.
Emotional support doesn't cure but it helps, coping with cancer or critical illness is really a hard task.
Loneliness is also an enemy, of course it's not easy to make others understand, but there are many people here with empathy, so please keep sharing with us !

| Doc, I'm sorry that you are going through this yet again, but we are all here for you. What you are sharing speaks about personal endurances and triumph and also brings light to the ugly C word for those not having seen it's ugly side first hand. Holy sh*t!!
Sorry for outburst but that really is an effective wake-up call.. We see posters and adverts etc. all the time for various cancer charities usually showing someone with a sad face etc.. yawn.. - this is what they need to do to raise awareness.
Hope it all works out... |

Feedback to all who may be asking.
I reported at hospital at 8 this morning, ready for the scans and bleeds and whatever the medicine men needed to do before the operation tomorrow.
First result: This is not a re-growth but a new cancer. I will have to be aggressively removed as it has been identified/upgraded as a Grade 2 Chondrosarcoma. They will also have to fix a massive hernia, one is 30cm, or two. Then they will have to protect the upper inside cavity where the ribs will be totally removed on the right side, with 'some technique'. Seems like they are considering some manipulation of the back muscles.
Result Two: Operation postponed for up to 2 weeks as I agreed for the operation to be performed at the U.C.T. (University of Cape Town)training hospital. Apparently it is a unique enough cancer and circumstances to warrant the attention of only the medicine men with too many and too few qualifications. They also guaranteed me I should not die of cancer in the next two weeks. I immediately agreed and came home to lick my wounds, literally.
Yip, the biopsies hurt. The bloodsucking hurts. And I have a stress migraine. But I am excited to think something good may just come out of all of this.
I will update as things happen/change. Thanks for all the good wishes and thoughts.

Bloody hell mate, hope you are not in too much pain and hats off to you for choosing the training hospital route, think you are a star. Don't forget, I still want my sunbird photo ;)

Over the years I've read of your struggles with various medical issues, and obviously up until now I've done it in silence. I'm just not one to get involved personally with folks I suppose. Maybe just scared of saying the wrong thing. As I get older I'm realizing though that not saying anything can be just as "wrong".
I truly do wish you the best. You've been through so much, and while you've had your lows in the past, right now you appear to have a great outlook. You've clearly suffered for it, but you're leaving your mark on all man kind with your rare variation of this illness and your willingness to share that with the medical world.
I've done a little reading on this Chondrosarcoma stuff, and the outcome looks promising even at grade 2. I hope this is the last time you have to go through something like this, and I hope through the doctors' studies of your case they'll learn something that will help others in the future also.
However silent some of us may be, we're out here, and we wish you well. |

Yip, biopsies suck. The bloodsucking sucks. And stress migraine's suck too! But Doc, you've got the winning attitude to pull this off! I'm happy to see your spirits are high and I'm wishing you all the success in the world to battle this monster and come out victorious! |
