Very happy so far. I feel there will be some high scores in this challenge.

I was so psyched about mine -- I thought it was incredibly cool!

Obviously, no one else does. :(

I have NEVER created a negative image (at least processing lol) so I'm pretty surprised by my score. My one comment is a bit disturbing.

I hesitated between three pictures for few days, and changed at the last minute... Will need some comments to know which one was the best when the outtakes post will be created... I did not submit the one I prefered but one with a bit more of wooow effect I think. Will see. So far, it's not too bad:

I was going to bed with a fairly strong starting score after 13 votes, as well as a fave (woo!), but I just had to check again before bed. I just did the math and the 14th vote on my image was a "3". Won't kill my joy that easily!

Thanks to all the initial high-scoring art lovers! ;)

Still not sure which way this score is going to head but decent so far I guess... hmm... I use to be thrilled with anything over a 5.5 now I want those 6's lol

The first commenter saw exactly what I hoped someone would, so even if the score tanks I consider this one a success.

Looks like I'm going for the brown in this one. I was at 4.8 at 20 votes. Steady decline...

I thought mine was a really cool abstract with colors

People think it's a sucky abstract with colors.

I actually don't care though -- I really like the photo. So I can live with it.

However, it does seem that every time I manage to get my over all average above 5.96, I get a 4 on something and it plummets in one challenge. Then it starts the very slow climb again.

We're in plummeting mode.

Hey Wendy, I went and saw Dolly Parton in concert, she had a great quote that I always remind myself of in these situations...

"Songs are to songwriters as children are to parents, a child could be totally ugly but a parent would never see that."

I think it sounds better when she says it...

I thought my pic was so cool that I was going to get a 6.5 this week. I'll be lucky if I make 5.5.

There are too many good shots in this one. You have to admit, with this technique even if you took a lousy shot and didn't really know what you we're doing it was still quite possible to come up with something really cool. I'm speaking from experience. At least I think it's cool.

To be honest, this is the most refreshing and creative challenge I've been a part of.

I think the problem is: it's a normal picture, that's not abstract in the slightest if it weren't inverted. The inversion did interesting things to it, and brought out some cool stuff that wasn't important in the regular picture. But since it's not abstract to begin with, it probably too normal for the abstract crowd. And since it just made funky colors on a normal picture, it probably doesn't go over well with the normal crowd.

But, truly, I'm ok with it, because it's certainly not something I would have appreciated before I started on this site. I think it's great fun that I like it -- it means my tastes have expanded significantly over the last year & a half!

On top of that -- I'm going to really enjoy voting on this challenge. I took a quick peek last night, and I liked almost everything I saw -- a lot! Some were extremely effective, some were just bizarrely cool. What a fun challenge! Good luck to everyone!

Edited to add: bohemka is right -- You can take a bad shot and end up with something very cool. I actually took many wonderful shots yesterday, and none of them worked. So in desperation, I went back through things I shot last week. The shot I entered was a lousy shot, but when the technique was applied, it turned into something, imo, wonderfully fun! I never would have tried it, and I'm glad we had this challenge. It was also fun to think in negative while shooting.

Well I should have known better... I had shown my pic to a couple of people, nobody was excited. One person actually said, "Yuck, you didn't take that did you?".

I thanked him for his honesty.

My one friend who did get excited about it has wierd tastes... Love her, but she only likes things everyone else finds wierd.

My only saving grace from DPC depression this week is the September challenge... Wish me luck.

Haha!! Same here! I'm glad that the free study is starting. I didn't get anything entered in fairy tales, so this would have been my only entry this week, otherwise.

I saw a pic a while back (wish I could find it now) where the photographer took a picture of a sculpture hanging from a cieling. He had inverted and negatized the picture and it was totally cool. Like you I had never played with negatives before... It was fun to play with and may be a useful tool in the future.

I found that it did some awesome things with textures that were almost unnoticeable in the original. It seems like something that we could capitalize on somehow in normal photography. Ok, I have to go play with something now!

Good luck cyberlandz... the first day is usually the worst and then the average goes up... the early voters are more critical.
