Hah... I have my LED ring-light, and getting my extension tubes this week :P
I should be doing ok with this one :-|

Got a new set of extension tubes myself. No ring light for me, but a new TTL cable and wireless trigger should suffice. Today is the second Sunday in a row that I have nothing in voting. Starting to feel withdrawal symptoms. I'll be shooting macros all week.

Ooooh, fun! I always seem to get some close-ups of something whenever I am out shooting up the place. A fondness for macro, I suppose... :)

My scores will be low. Maybe I should do a macro of a "1"? :)

Land a dragonfly on that "1" and drop into water... you may even get a "2" with that LOL

I can only do the reversed lens techinique, by free holding the lens the wrong way
I think it actually works pretty well, but the depth of focus is hair thin, and I am positive that will kill my score.

60 mm macro plus all my extension tubes and my focus point is inside my friggin' lens. Depth of field? What depth of field... :)

Unless if you trap a fly in the lens... that would be cool. Put on burst and you'll get the blue LOL

Ahhh, perfect timing. The garden spiders are big and plump this time of the year... :)

that shallow depth of field can be tough. this would be a good challenge to try some focus-stacking. Wouldn't that be legal under advanced editing rules?

as far as I know, focus stacking is not allowed.

as far as I know, focus stacking is not allowed.

If you mean stacking to increase DOF then it is allowed under Advanced editing, subject to the other details of the rule (i.e. no changes between frames):

The intent of allowing multiple captures is to enable such techniques as high dynamic range (HDR), noise reduction, increased DOF, etc....

ugh... I hate bug pictures. Every time I see them I think that the Orkin man needs to work harder. I don't think I will vote in this challenge.

All the same, I've been wanting a good macro lens, maybe this is a good excuse.

I of course have plans to buy a macro lens... next month when I'm back in the states. Bummer timing.

I bought my water drop today and I'm setting it up tonight.

I also squandered some good money on some refraction.

I also bought an insect with big beautiful eyes.

:)

So, if you are doing so good with this, does that mean you win the hat?? What happens if you do win??

I don't wear hats... so I donate it to someone else in other challenge :P

However, roz or IreneM will get the blue and it will be either a bug or a drop anyways... no one winning macro here but one of those two!!

PHTPHPHTPTH... not negative, it's the fact. Some people already have their setup ready to go for macros. Even others have excellent ideas in their mind, execution is not that easy for most... well, that's the challenge right, soooo that's why I'll give one FREE DPC Hat to the winner of this challenge if they don't use bugs, drops or bubbles (or any combination of them) :-)

...and that's my challenge to this challenge LOL

Honestly, I don't care, but it would be nice to see new creativity :)
