Mom's having me restore some old photos and I've been able to do pretty much everything she has requested except for this one.

She wants it smoothed out as much as possible, but I haven't had much success. I was about to chalk it up to impossible but that I'd throw it out there for some ideas. Ideas?

Also, can someone give me a clue as to how you go about "coloring" an old black and white photo? She didn't ask me to, but I'd like to surprise her with this one of her parents....

THANKS!!

not sure about the first image but I found doing "hand coloring" to be pretty easy in Lightroom. Just use your handy dandy adjustment tool and give it a color and start coloring. (I'll see if I can find a sample)

Unfortunately I don't have Lightroom. I have Bridge and Photoshop CS5. doh.

I'm hardly an expert, but I would like to give it a shot. Any chance of a larger original?

I put these in my workshop, there should be an option to view at full size.

Nope. . . not that I'm seeing, anyway.

Did you can this grainy picture or did you take a photo of it?

It looks like this one was taken from the newspaper. If you scanned it what were your settings? I have had some success with some of the old genealogy records that we have accumulated but knowing how to handle them is crucial to getting to the best results.
