Is it me, or is the only color contributed to the front page that by the Blue, Red, and Yellow ribbons?

Just interesting how the last 12 ribbon winners have the same photographic feel.

It's quite a moment. We should take a picture of it.

Color is overrated!

I wonder if 1x is full of color at the moment? :)

B&W is the new colour.

We opened our eyes to "ART" rather than "Candies" I think :)

Are people finally getting tired of oversaturated landscapes? Looking for something different?

1x has a nice mix at the moment.

Dang! I've been trying to adjust the colour of my monitor for the last 10 mins.

It's been my idea for quite awhile that if you look at a photo in B&W and it's not so good, that it probably sucks in color too.

Simply clicking "desaturate" will not make a great photo.... but it will tell you a lot about the photo you've chosen to process, if you look hard enough.

Well, it can be partly explained by the challenge topics. With In the Style of Nixter, Photojournalism IV, we were more likely to get unsaturated images. If we had bokeh xvcvd or product shot something, it would have been a different story.

It's the least amount of color I've seen. Hey, I tried to introduce some color... but came in fourth. :/ Maybe should have gone B&W.

S-curve could have had more color and mostly BW at the top in the Free Study is something new.

Probably explains why my 3 entries that are colourful are doing poorly at the moment. Frankly I think the front page is a little boring!! LOL

Not to me, but it has happened many times before to much better photographers than me.

I want to get better at black and white so the front page is inspiring to me.
I have a hard time looking at my pics and seeing which will translate well to black and white.
I should take fotomann's advise and look at them all in B&W and that would probably tell me a thing or two about my photos in general.

When you take away the color, you get a better look at lighting, form, texture, etc and simplicity (which is a key element to great photos).

I've even suggested to a student of mine that she shoot RAW, but have her camera set for B&W. She still gets the color RAW image, but her camera LCD shows the images in B&W, giving her the eye to shoot B&W imagery. If the image looks good in B&W on the camera LCD, it's got a very good chance of looking good in color.

Personally, if I'm shooting specifically for B&W images, I'll take my own advice on this.

Good idea. I know someone who used to edit photos (for offset print) first with the monitor in B&W for tone and contrast, then in color to adjust the color as needed.

You've given me an idea. I have a 2 monitor setup and I'm thinking of putting one to only show B&W. hmmm

How would I do this? With the monitor profiles? I know this must be easy but I can't think of a way off hand atm.
