How do I get my image removed from a current challenge? I did more editing than is allowed.. Ooops

Haha, I did that once. I wrote to Help->Contact Us, and Site Council took it off for me.

You do as Slippy says, and request a self-dq. You won't be able to do so for another 25 challenges and hopefully you won't have to! :-)

Or you could tell us which image is yours so we can plague it with a whole bunch of "1" votes. I keed! I keed! =)

I paid off the SC with a lap dance, and they removed mine, no self-DQ necessary. But it was a covert operation, and you didn't hear that from me. They probably even told me not to tell anyone, but it was a long time ago and my memory is clouded by too many whiskey-induced comas.

That must have been a slippery experience...

..

From the rules:

You May:
...
- request removal of your own entry during the voting period IF none of your last 25 entries were disqualified or removed, and no rules were violated.

I also had to tell SC that my entry is invalid (current challenge). Did so three days ago - it is still merrily racking up my highest score ever. What type of dance would I need to get SC to let a wrong date slip through?

My second-ever ribbon, I had that problem, after switching to dSLR from P&S. I wrote poems, cooked feasts, sang songs, and eventually sacrificed a virgin, all to no avail :-(

Yes, you report it, but it is a "regular DQ" and not a "Self-DQ" -- the only difference being that, in this case, the image will remain at the end of the challenge results, along with the reason for the DQ.

You would still have to avoid any kind of DQ for the next 25 entries to avoid a suspension ... please be careful! :-)

Oh Ok, thanks for the correction GeneralE!

this is something i have never understood. if someone realizes after the challenge started, and before anyone asked to validate, and they honestly step forward to remove it, why the heck would they be penalized by having it count the same way as if SC had discovered it?

Same here. I could never understand the self disqualifying idea. Except perhaps, to promote the honor system and not annoy people if discovered, even inadvertently.

I have no idea what generated this rule, but playing the devil's advocate, I should guess that it was from preventing people removing a low scoring image, to boost their average.
If we could request that an image was removed for scoring low, probably some people would do it quite often. Again, my 2c.

Actually, as I read the rule, that's exactly what it IS set up for. Since you can only self-DQ an image that is not in violation of the rules, and it really does disappear, my guess is that a tactical person would indeed use it to keep their average high.. That or if you entered something like the cheeseman shot while drunk and regretted it shortly thereafter.

'Cuz they broke the rules. My one and only DQ was exactly the same situation: I woke up in the morning, checked my score and was thrilled to see it was much higher than I expected ... THEN noticed it was a Basic challenge and I had merrily edited using Advanced. D'oh! The fact that I promptly reported myself doesn't change the fact that I entered an image that broke the rules for that challenge. I can't say I was happy to accept the DQ, but I never thought it was unfair.

And I've been very careful to double-check which ruleset is in effect when entering challenges ever since ;-)

I get that the rules were broken, but when someone dq's themseleves then to me it's understood they weren't being shady, purposely trying to pull one over on us. I just think a little grace could be extended is all.

I'm sure they would like to give a little grace...but then it would become a problem with those that would use this as an excuse to remove an image everytime they were unhappy with the score they were getting. It's the whole a few bad apples thing.

At least he's not getting the ugly pink ribbon for all eternity.
