I hope people go and do their homework a little more. Someone just told me mine dnmc, but I got my quote from a list of misquotes I found online.....

I agree with you for sure but don't be fooled into thinking that just they are real misquotes because you got them from a list online.
It's a bit like saying "it must be true because I read it in the paper"

Good point. One of my other commenters said they looked it up and it was a misquote.....so that's at least 2 people who think it is :) But, you can't always trust the internet I suppose ha.

Simple solution: Treat it as a FREE STUDY and so long as the photo meets the quote used, let it slide. Some things might be lost in translation.

This could be the best solution but would require everyone to follow suit.
I just got hit by a 3, I'm guessing someone thinks mine is a quote and not a misquote grrrrr

I had an neutral entry of a Garden Spider into Yellow that I wasn't thrilled with, because it had no style. Then said, "Hey, there's so few entries in Misquotes I should try and get in on that." Errr, mistake. Four years later I still think people might look at entries for more than .5 seconds. When will I learn to go with the stupid boring spider? And the misquote/quote thing? Gah... I'm so sick of people ripping apart challenge topics. I wish people would just trust each other. Why does everyone have to prove everyone wrong? So sick of sick challenge topic bullshit...

Inhale, exhale...

I actually went to bed with a decent 5.5ish score.

First entry in a long while. It's a bit of a shoe horn entry but the voters appear to be generous today

Going down with everyone else. Just dropped under a 6 again. Getting a few "meh" votes now, but not a lot of "ew" votes. I may flip-flop around in this area for a while.

I gotta say, this is a difficult one to vote on. I'm sure there are others like me, who saw the potential for some great images in this unique category and jumped in to have a look and vote on them all.

The only problem is that lots of them appear to be quotes and not misquotes. Where I would vote highly on an image, but deemed it a quote, I'd do a Google search and see if I could put it right. The only problem is that that is a far from accurate way of doing things!

The people who create the images no doubt have done their research, but those of us who are voting may not take the time for EVERY entry to dig around for the precise origin of a quote. I've already been PM'ed by one of you guys and bumped my score up as a result of my own error, but I'm afraid some of you are going to be stung! I'm pretty happy with my votes as they stand now, but I guess we'll see when the voting ends...

So DNMC until proven innocent?

Hey Matt

Is there really any need to sting anyone on this for DNMC. In the commercial world we all need to deliver to a brief or we do not get paid. But in this challenge the brief was very vague, as seen by the discussions on the forums before the challenge even started. Perhaps a little leniency on this one is needed as we all appear to have slightly different interpretations on the brief. However yelllow is yellow so feel free to sting all blue entries in the yellow challenge

I voted the whole thing right after rollover. Gave an average of 6.54. Thanks pal, I feel like such a troll now...

No no, I've voted on how well the image meets the (mis)quote. If the score I would give it is a 6 or higher, AND I'm not certain of whether it's an actual misquote, I do some research. To be fair, I only had to do this on a handful of images, with the result being that there is only one image I've given a 4 that would have been about a 7 if it was an actual misquote.

The point I'm making is that not everyone will necessarily do this! As has been mentioned earlier, some of these misquotes are so familiar, people won't see them as such and may not be bothered to check. Some of the misquotes are so subtle, that there are bound to be a number of DNMC votes slipping in erroneously.

I don't believe I've been harsh! I've voted based on the image and interpretation for every image, bar one, which I believe is a DNMC and which I left a comment on saying as much (yours, perhaps?). Anyway, I've had a long think over this image and have decided to up the vote on it, as the "misquote" is a play on the author's name, and not the quote itself. Shades of grey, indeed.

The intent of my posting here has not been to criticise, but merely provide some illumination that there are bound to be people who will vote DNMC without checking. If it makes anyone feel better, none of my votes now reflect DNMC!!

Damn, I'm soft. :P

Got it, Matt. Your earlier post sounded like if you couldn't get positive ID on the misquote, you were low voting it as DNMC. Thanks for the clarification.

"Floats like a butterfly , stings like a big soft teddy bear!"

Matt, If it was my shot you voted down I admit it was a shoe horn entry, so it probably deserved it. But thanks for sharing the love

They paid their money, they knew what they were getting into. I say let 'em crash.

Ok.. so a slight misquote there... I can't say I knew whether my pick for the blue was a misquote or not when I was voting. After reading this thread, I decided to research and believe it is a misquote - so meets the challenge. But I didn't vote any down because I thought it wasn't a misquote.

I guess people vote different ways - I do usually drop a couple of points if it clearly DNMC but quotes/misquotes are sometimes hard to differentiate.
