Finally published! This photo got a 4.7 in still life challenge, rejected by 1x, and now Photo of the Week on allears.net. Go figure. Finally, some people appreciate a good photo.

That would do excellent in architecture challenge :-\ it's a very good photo, and congrats.

For the 1x, they are bunch of jerks. You couldn't make it here, because it was DNMC, not because it was a bad image... wrong challenge I should say.

*sigh*

All this anti-1x stuff that is about at the moment really is just a bit sad and pathetic i feel. You want to act all childish and call people you do not know jerks because they won't accept everyones precious little pictures you go ahead. I do think it may reflect badly on DPC though. Also, bear in mind that calling 1x a bunch of jerks you are effectively calling a number of people who are active on DPC (such as Ursula) jerks as well. Perhaps you should stop acting like a spoilt 10 year old and think about how rude you are being.

I wanted to say that... it's definitely not still life.

Look at it this way: AllEars issued a specific, ongoing challenge; "Send us your best picture taken within Walt Disney World." You adhered to the terms of the "description" and submitted an excellent image, and there it is!

Definitely meets the challenge.

But by no rational definition is that image a "still life", and it's silly to say we "didn't appreciate it" when it didn't even come close to meeting the challenge in which it was entered...

Look back at the challenges on this site, and tell me when that has ever mattered? Many Ribbon winners or top 10's don't meet the challenge either.

"Not meeting the challenge" and "missing by a country mile" are two completely different things. Most of the time, when "DNMC" scores well, there's at least a token nod at the topic as the image sails glibly past.

Prove me wrong :-) Let's have examples. You say "many" top 10's don't meet the challenge, so we need a passel of examples. Want to start a new thread for this?

Yeah Matt, show us the examples. I'm kind of tired of reading these generalized comments.

I'm with Bear about the image of the week in the OP.

rugman and FocusPoint, wow, just wow. You can't even hold back on the childish comments. It's obvious you're bitter about not getting your images accepted over at 1x but please men, hold back on your rude and uncalled for insults. 1x is highly respected as a place to view beautiful images of many sorts and it may be the reason why your work was refused. Think about it.

Dude, you're talking very sure of yourself. It has nothing to do with my images published or not, they all sucked, so I wasn't expecting them to be accepted. I didn't get any ribbon more than a year in DPC but I didn't give up here. So, it must be something else right? Here are the reasons, and when I say "First impression" I mean it.

Site is slow. Their code is running slow or their server is running slow, something is funky. The color selection is horrible on the website (all black?), I couldn't find the damn buttons a few times, keep looking and randomly clicking stuff. nothing clear. DPC is strait forward, and pretty simple, but not low quality website. 1x (which name is like a freaking underground secrecy, "MJ12" or something) made me feel like I am on a trial and judged by a few dark hooded people sitting above me. I didn't feel comfortable there, I felt "small" and if some place gives me that feeling, I don't care if I have a few pictures published or not, I am not giving that pleasure to those "wipe-monkeys". Yes, there are some people from DPC at 1x also, I feel sorry about them (personally), just like you feel sorry for me. We're even.

1x SUCKS to the bone. From the coders to its judges.

Well, that's cleared that up. For what it's worth i quite like the design and functionality of the 1X site and have never lost buttons or found it running slow. I have some problems uploading images though which can be a bit frustrating but nothing too drastic. Anyway, apart from the site design it seems your problem with 1X is how it makes you feel 'small' and insecure. I can see how that would put you off the site so i agree it's best if you keep away just for your own mental health. The dark hooded people sound positively Kafkaesque. I know people who have a phobia about clowns and they keep away from circuses for much the same reason.

You're right, that's it (and I mean it the most sarcastic way)

Really? Neither of you look at the entries that are just "pretty" "linked with a title" and say wow that is DNMC? I am having supper then cutting grass but will start with a few off the top of my head.

Abstract? not. Master of disguise? 47 Steps? I literally could go on and grab a bunch, but really if you haven't ever seen or read the forums and the complaints about DNMC I'm not sure what to tell you. This is not a Generalized comment.

Perhaps it's just me and I may be a byproduct of my upbringing but there is an old adage that says: "If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all".

Rather sad that we have seemingly degenerated to name calling. I most certainly have no problem to listening to good arguments, but have not seen any substantive issues being discussed either here or in another thread that is seemingly focused on some rival site.

Civility should be at the forefront of all discourse.

Really? Not considered still life? What is considered still life? If I took a picture of a 6 inch model of Space Mountain, is that considered still life? What about an 18 inch model? 25 foot model? When does it become not a still life anymore? My understanding is still life is anything that does not move, but is real. So how does this not meet that description? It's real, and doesn't move.

You're intentionally being silly. Surely you realize you've applied far too broad a definition for "still life", which, for hundreds of years before your birth, has had a very specific meaning. You may as well call any photograph by Jerry Lodriguss of a nebula or star cluster "candid street photography". Who are you to say that any of those billions of stars he's photographed aren't circled by planets inhabited by life that was walking around not noticing his camera when he took the picture?

And you say I'm being silly? Still life is still life. A building is still life, for as long as I can remember, even before I was born.

A building has never been a still life, even before anyone was born.

Thanks. I've never understood still life as clearly as I do at this moment.
