What is a good place to get excellent quality prints, 5x7 through 8x10, 11x14? A place where when you are holding the paper the quality of it, the print, everything, just makes you say "WOW, now that is a nice print!"

Thanks.

I have just signed up with White House Custom Colour (whcc.com). I was referred by someone who makes his living on their prints. Everything I've read about them is simply excellent.

One of the most impressive things you'll notice right up front is that before they fill your first real, paid order, they require that you first upload five 8x10's for them to print and ship back FREE to ensure color accuracy within your workflow. Once you upload your test shots you can download their profiles for soft-proofing. What's more, all orders include 2-day shipping at no additional cost.

So far I've only done the test prints (which are printed on their standard luster paper), and they look great to me, though I'm not a professional. Color accuracy is great relative to my calibrated monitor (I'm using the Spyder3 Elite).

I'd highly recommend signing up and going through the test print process.

DPC Prints is very good and it supports this site.

I've had prints from 4x6 to 24x36. I am very critical on print quality, and these are excellent.

.. and for DPCPrints just get the profile from EZPrints (the printing end of the site) for soft proofing.

Thanks...just a quick bump for the morning crowd.

Anyone have a tutorial on soft-proofing? I'm not sure I understand the [monitor profile]/[printer profile]/[profile embedded in the image], and how to set those to get a print at home that will have close to the same colors as in the lab.

Just curious who you ended up going thru?

I think BayPhoto is the option here.

No one yet. I absolutely hate the photographs (even though the family loves them) and I'm dragging my feet for a reshoot.

I am a big fan of WHCC (White House Custom Color). And shipping is free as long as you send to yourself, and don't drop ship to customers. That saves a lot.

Wonderful lustre prints; great and quick service. Another nice thing is that you can have the prints mounted; nothing impresses like a mounted print!

Thanks. I'll keep them in mind. I guess since they like the photos the way they are, I won't do much to them, just get them ready for print. I've seen the print quality add to subtract from a photo.

I agree! I just received my test prints today and only uploaded them Monday - VERY fast turnaround! The prints look great and I'm pleased that they included sample 4x6 pictures of many other papers/finishes. I love their metallic paper and am looking forward to having something printed on it.

I got ready to order from whcc.com and everything looks wonderful, got the prints, calibrated my monitor, ready to make an order of the metallic and luster prints

but wait...

I can't.

They don't let you order different kinds of paper on one order! Which means, if I want metallic and glossy and lustre prints, that's three separate orders. $12 minimum per order.

I will still likely order with them when the time is right. Their quality and service are great (and the metallic paper looks phenomenal!), but I didn't see this coming and didn't find out until I was ready to place an order.

Just an FYI FWIW, it wasn't in the FAQ, so I had to let you know ASAP, OK?

I just wanted to echo that I tried WHCC as a result of reading this thread, and I just got my test prints back. They're superior. The colour matching is the best I've seen yet from any print house. Any service you have to apply for is on track. Highly recommended.

I have used mpix.com for a long time. I think their quality is fantastic...the prints come quickly everytime and I've never had a problem. They offer 3 types of paper and you can order all 3 in one order.

No border/customs issues?

No. They use UPS and because of their high volume they pay all brokerage fees. They charge gst/hst as their volume to Canada is sufficiently large.

MPix, they are great they work with you
