Ok besides Bridge (which drives me insane) is there any software out there that anyone recommends for browsing through your RAW files?? Preferably free.... The only thing I alike about bridge is that I can open it right into the PS Camera Raw editor but Im tired of it crashing on me and freezing and its so slow!!!

(I tried searching for answers on the forum here and didnt have luck so please forgive me if this is a repeat)

Freeware or paid, Picassa is freeware and works fairly well, lightroom is great on the paid side.

The Canon Digital Photo Professional software that should have come with your camera. If you didn't get the software disk from the previous owner, you can probably contact Canon for a replacement. Canon also provides a codec on the disk so that you can view the images in the Windows image preview utility.

Also have a look at Fast Picture Viewer codec pack. This also integrates with Windows Explorer's preview. I use it as I have 64 bit Win7 and Canon has not released a 64 bit version of their own codec yet.

I think RAW files have an embedded image file as well. FastStone Image Viewer views them fine that way, but if you do a RAW -> JPEG conversion in it, it'll make a JPEG with its own "automatic" settings; if you "view at actual size" (shortcut: A), it'll also display it with those "automatic" settings it uses to create the JPEG when converting. But when you just open up a RAW file in FastStone, it loads up the same way a JPEG would, and you can zoom around for the details.

I agree with Yo_Spiff. When I got my new camera, I gave the Canon Digital Photo Professional a try. I like it!

Let me know how that works. I find fast picture viewer useful for quickly viewing a few RAW pics, but when I use it to review large amounts of RAW files, it eventually locks up. It may just be some quirk of my own system, however. I've been using DPP to review my RAW files recently. It does not let me scroll through the images with the cursor keys, but it does integrate with the Windows file system so that I can move the keepers into another folder by dragging them out of the DPP thumbnail window to another folder.

Fastone image viewer

Great free application, get a dewcent sized thubmnail or make it full screen. Can delete from here which will delete the actual file
