.....is a first time entry, portrait, from a totally anonymous new entrant that just completely blew away the voters by getting a blue in his first challenge? Woo hoo!

Welcome, Andy, let's see more!!!!!

What a killer image, too!

That means he also has the claim to the highest average score of any DPC user...

Extraordinary job.. Way to make an entrance.

Wow that image had some serious exposure before it ever went into voting.

Beautiful image for sure.

I hadn't recognized the name, but there are a lot of people here that fly under the radar until they hit the front page. I just assumed it was a long time member that is not a forum junkie.

Andy will certainly keep us on our toes. Welcome aboard!

Great shot, no doubt.

Curious though:
Challenges Entered: 1
Votes Cast: 0
Avg Vote Cast: 0.0000

Is no 20% voting quota a perk of membership too?

There's no requirement to vote, but if you choose to ... then you'll have to vote on 20% for your votes to count.

You aren't required to vote on challenges. But if you do, you need to vote 20% or more.

Ohhh. I see. Interesting. Didn't know that.
So what's the incentive to vote at all then?

Does it look like she's wearing those Lady Gaga contact lenses that are dangerous to her vision?

That'd be that inate sense of decency to participate, and return in kind what's been domne for you.

So.....get out there, vote & comment.

For me, the incentive to vote is in how voting helps me pay more attention. Faced with the decision about what score to enter image by image, I slow down, look closer, and notice things I would miss if just glancing at each entry. The process makes me consider which elements seem to work (or not) and why. These thoughts filter back to gradually improve my own images. Commenting takes that to another level, and sometimes may be helpful to others. But mostly, I take the time to vote and comment because it helps me enjoy the images more.

I don't think this photograph will be approved. There is a very obvious texture added as an overlay, which is not legal in Advanced. I anticipate a DQ.

He probably has more than one and just didn't change the selection when he uploaded. DPC doesn't pick off of exif your camera - you have to put that in. I have two in my profile a D80 and a D300 but I have the D300 set as my default but if I shot with another I'd have to manually change it.

If you don't change it, it is still a DQ!

I'm still trying to learn how to see stuff like this in an image (so I can know how to use these techniques on photos). Louis, can you please elaborate on what keys you into seeing a texture? Thanks!

The overlaid texture -- that part of the photo that looks kind of like a textured piece of gauze, probably meant to make the cloth she's wearing look more textured -- is far too uniform to be natural, particularly given the way the cloth is falling in the photograph. Also, the texture can be seen at her left shoulder, where it meets both the dark background and the cloth. My guess is a texture was overlaid, then erased around the face.

If this was taken during the month of June and is validated, I'll eat my lens cap.
