Good thing I don't like macaroni salad. Hope you'll have some time to get together whenever you do get down here.

Right now I am in for either weekend. But it all depends on my school assignments but I will not know what they are until the start of the semester at the end of August.

It will be the only reason I come. Otherwise (to wife and kids): "Have a safe trip! Give everyone my love... !"

ETA: I don't like macaroni salad either. They made me eat it as a kid. Yuck!

My preference would be the second weekend because my college son's "Family weekend" in Tuscaloosa, AL is that Labor Day weekend and there's a chance I could be heading out there. There's an equal chance that I wont be going.

I'm good with the air show idea - or frankly anything.

Steve....I am open to anything. Just let me know...dates...etc.

Ok, here's the schedule sofar:

Dates: September 4th & 5th, 2010

Saturday Sept. 4th:

*0730 Meet for breakfast somewhere in south Dallas. (Probably a Denny's along I-20, I'll find a specific location later.) This will give us plenty of time to talk photo stuff and get to meet all the faces we've only known online.

*1000-1300 (10am to 1pm for those that were never in the military) Commemorative Air Force Warbirds on Parade Airshow (See some of my pics above from the event in 2008)

*1300-whenever Get some lunch (Does Chili's sound good?) and then head over to DeRidder Antiques in Forney. It's not your normal antique store. Willy Deridder has always been very welcoming to the local Flickr group and she enjoys seeing how we appreciate the items in her shop in a different way than most folks. The shop is composed of several large warehouses and in the middle of the day you will get some wonderful filtered light from the skylights in the ceiling.

A warm welcome by Yo Spiff, on Flickr

For more information on what you can find at this place, here is My DeRidder set on Flickr and a Music video that a member of the Flickr group put together using our meetup photos. (That's me rolling on the floor at 2:25)

Sunday Sept. 5th:

1130-1300ish: Saturday is going to be a big day, so lets Sleep in a bit and meet about 1130 for lunch at the Ol' South Pancake House in Fort Worth. This should be early enough to beat the church crowds.

1300-whenever: Hit the Fort Worth Stockyards where the Old West still lives. There is a scheduled reenactment of a cattle drive every day at 1630, and you can also catch some great pics of the vintage railroad that runs between Grapevine and the Stockyards. I like to position myself out by the bridges where the railroad enters and leaves the stockyards. If we are lucky, we can catch the antique steam engine, though it does not always run and sometimes we get a more modern diesel locomotive. For $10, you can ride it for the Trinity River Run at 1530.

Note: Many of the folks who portray the historical characters at the stockyards do so for a living and tipping is appropriate.

Evening: Open to ideas if everyone is not burned out at this point in the weekend.

Sounds like a fun weekend. I'll be back in the States on Sept 2nd and should be able to make it.

I might be down for this. That's only a 4 hour drive from where I live.

Ok, ok...I'm in already, lol! Wouldn't miss this for anything.
I may be flying solo that weekend, not sure if James has off or not. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

After I sent out the bulk PM, I remembered you were not very far away and was getting ready to forward it to you as well. Don't have to now.

I'm sure there are a few other active members I have overlooked, so please let them know.

Well, Australia is like Texas, but with a bloke accent, so you won't miss much.

Well, pooh. I was hoping to jump into the DPC fray with this meetup, but I'll be in New Jersey that weekend. Maybe next time!

'Bout time you came out of lurking! Jump into the fray anyway. We have an architecture challenge that goes into voting 11pm Tuesday. I'm sure you can find some buildings to photograph on that side of the metroplex.

Oh, this sounds like so much fun!!! I'd love it me and Judy & Roseann could ride together, but I'm not sure I'm going to be here the first weekend in September! That is when our annual pilgrimage to the Rocky Mountains is, and I may either still be there, or plum broke upon just returning. But my head is spinning and I'm going to really try to make it. I'd love to meet all the people in our area and shoot in Ft. Worth! I really hope it works out!

Marge and I are still scheduled for San Antonio that weekend, but if anything changes I will be there.

Unfortunately I met 'hell' and 'high water' all in one little package.

It's kind of hit or miss with my mom's health issues, so I'll have to say tentatively maybe.

As the time gets closer, maybe I can commit.

Bump for the weekday crowd and to note that I changed the time for Sunday lunch 30 minutes earlier. Ellen says 1200 is not quite early enough to beat the church crowds.
