A weekend would be great!

Ellen and I discussed ideas over dinner. Depending on when everyone from out of town gets in, we could do Ft. Worth on Saturday, seeing the Stockyards and timing it to catch the cattle drive and the arrival/departure of the vintage railroad. The water gardens is pretty cool and is located at the edge of downtown FW. Sunday we could do an early downtown Dallas walkaround, perhaps starting at the traveling man sculpture in Deep Ellum, to catch the sunrise hitting downtown.
(Not taken at dawn)
Since the sculpture is across from the commuter rail station, there is plenty of parking there, and downtown Dallas is just a short walk of a few blocks.

Just some ideas to kick around to get started. Not sure yet what dates will work, but I do know the last weekend in August I have to be taking my daughter back to college. How does the first weekend in September sound? Gives everyone plenty of time to plan.

First weekend in Sept is good for me. That will be like the 2nd week of the fall semester so should not have any major things due and should be able to make it.

I'll plan for the first weekend in September, then. I'm sure it won't suit everyone, but then no date will fit everyone's schedule. This gives us almost 2 months to plan.

I'll gather up a list of places to visit that may be of interest and I'll post them here to get some feedback.

1st weekend in September is good for me too. I don't have my calendar on front of me: is that Labor Day weekend?

So, at this point, how many people plan to come?? I look forward to meeting everyone and seeing Steve and Ellen.

She was one of the first to respond when I posted this thread.

From the earlier responses, it sounds like a good 10 or more are interested. I've not done a specific head count though. I may need to start a list. This week, I'll be doing that and sending out PM's to the folks that don't check the forums as frequently.

Sounds like the first weekend in September has my daughters birthday in it so We will probably be asked to babysit so how about the second weekend, September 10th-12th. Will that work?

If the first weekend is better, I will understand. Labor Day is that Monday so that makes it a LONG weekend which gives everyone and extra day off to be here or to travel and then play with what they took. If that's the case them our girl will just have to get over it.

Don't matter to me. I will not know until the end of August if I can make any weekend. All depends on when school assignments are due.

I should be able to make it either weekend. The only thing that could come up is having to travel - otherwise I'm good. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone.

Would there be any interest in doing an airshow for that Saturday? CAF Warbirds on Parade I'm thinking we meet someplace in the south Dallas area for breakfast and then be at the airshow when it open at 10. It runs till 4, which gives time to do something else later.

Just saw this and I would love to come to DFW to shoot. Unfortunately we are going to be in San Antonio the first weekend to visit Marge's parents and spend my birthday down there. The second weekend would probably work though.

Yes! I attended AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI years ago and the formation flying was fascinating.

OK, Roll Call

Please post city and weekend preference for 1st or 2nd weekend in September. Steve and I are leaning toward the 1st weekend because it is also a long weekend allowing for extra travel time and more time to hang out and shoot.

So far, that the list of who seems interested. I will be sending out some private invites as soon as we decide for sure when the GTG will be. Steve wants to do it the first weekend, So, post here and send one of us an PM that you are in, when you want it to be, and what you would like to do when here. Then we can plan the weekend. Steve wants to spend saturday at an air show. We will still have heat to contend with so I will think about that as I help plan the days.

We have lots of places to stay by where we live and more than tons of places to eat. Do you want to stay by us, centrally located or somewhere specific? Give us some ideas and we will get things started.

I love seeing my name in the list, but I can't possibly commit. We're due to visit my in-laws in Keller this year, but that's all very tentative at this point. We looked at Thanksgiving, then sometime around the end of summer. My boys are in high school, and various curricular and extracurricular activities are already filling up the calendar. So it's becoming hard to schedule. Anyway, I was hoping to see the chosen date coincide with one of our possibilites. I'll keep tabs on what you all (y'all?) decide, but don't wait for me to show up with macaroni salad.
