Since a few people seem to want one, I'll host a two-night Fireworks Speed Challenge for our American members. Rules are simple:

1. Picture must be taken tonight, 4th of July, or have been taken last night if you had fireworks then. I can't check EXIF, so I'm doing this on the honor system.

1A. Only one entry per person please. If you want to replace a current entry with a new one, prior to deadline, that's fine. If two entries inadvertently remain up for any individual, I will judge on the last posted.

2. Advanced editing rules. EXCEPTION: you may create a composite of more than one fireworks exposure during post processing.

3. I will be the judge & jury on this one.

4. Post your fireworks in this thread. All entries must be posted by midnight, July 5th, DPC time.

5. I will award Gold, Silver, and Bronze Bear Paws for this "challenge":

Have fun!

R.

Here's my entry then:

Sparks of Light Over a Dark Night-Sky

This was taken after a rodeo in central Oregon at 12:00 midnight. lots of rednecks out screaming about how much they love America. Everyone was praying to god and such. It just killed me. The firework show was great though. This shot was taken towards the end of the show when there was lots of dust hanging in the air. So the fireworks lit up the sky and allowed me to use a fast shutter speed in pitch darkness.

Keep 'em coming people. Very Prestigious Awards being given :-) I don't think I've given Bear Paws out but twice or three times over the year-and-a-half I've had 'em hanging around...

And let me say, the bar has been set high in the early going, these are some worthy contenders.

Remember, you have until midnight tomorrow to post your fireworks in this thread.

Forgot to mention, only one entry per person please. If you want to replace an entry with another one, before deadline, that's fine.

Here's wot I got:

Is the deadline in 16 minutes or 24 hours and 16 minutes? I just don't know whether midnight on July 5th is very soon or a day from now.

O look, I just read the post below mine and suddenly alles klaar.

Is this just for members or can registered users also participate? I don't know any way to post just a thumbnail to a gallery outside of dpc. I can post a full size photo, but didn't want to do so without asking. :)

Email the 800-pixel finished version to me and I'll post it from my workshop :-) This goes for anyone who wants to enter and doesn't have a portfolio handy.

No, of course you can :-) I was only acknowledging the fact that this was a pretty much Yankee-biased side challenge...

You might want to open that up a bit. Towns around here had fireworks as early as the 2nd, and I think there are even some planned for tonight.

Fine with me.

Any fireworks image taken between July 2nd and 3 AM July 6th DPC time is eligible. Deadline for submissions is extended by 12 hours, to noon July 6th, to allow for processing time.

That ought to cover it reasonably well? Means west coast USA at midnight their time is still usable :-)

Here's one from me:

This was from last night, but I saw fireworks displays on Friday and Saturday, too. No shortage of material!

EDIT- I just added 29 photos from last night to the end of that gallery.
