i was looking at cameras to save up for (Canon brand) and so with some look around (ok so the canon website) i think i might want to get the 50D.... or the 7D...

Thoughts? Suggestions? Any other Canon camera that you would suggest? what are the competative prices?

Thanks so much for any help!

I love my 50D, it's a solid camera and works well..

Although, I do sometimes wish I had a few more AF points, better high ISO performance, and Movie capabilities.. i.e. a 7D..

I would say that the 50D will make you very happy, unless you want to shoot at ISO 3200 or want movies... Then get a 7D..

this camera will be just me starting out, getting my own stuff (lenses and such) but movies arent that big of deal. i can go without that. :) although that would be nice sometimes...

You could buy it, at a discounted price if it is the love of your life, or are you being fickle and now desire the new kid on the block??

no direct experience with either one (I'm a nikon guy for my dslr), but a good friend of mine upgraded to the 7D and LOVES it. My next camera will have the high iso low noise low light performance features, for sure. Opens so many options and opportunities. So, for me, that will be a D700 or better (which is a 7D + 693 :-)

My 0.5 cents, FWIW, knowing I have yet to cross a 6.0 avg on DPC, AND I consider myself as a t(u)rrible photog:-):-)

a 7d is good for shooting a wedding, but it takes a lot, lot more than just that one camera body to really get the job done (unless you're shooting the wedding just to help out a friend who can't afford a professional wedding photographer). if you're new to photography and getting ready to shoot a wedding, though, you're probably still going to need to spend a lot of money on the right lenses and some really good books about how to shoot weddings. all the same, the 7d is a great place to start and i'm sure you'll do just fine with it, even if you're just starting out.

We use the 5D Mark II for all our Wedding and Portrait photography. Love it, love it, love it! The high ISO has little to no grain. It has been a great investment. My only complaint is it's build for mens hands so by the end of an 8 hour day my hands hurt.

I haven't played around with the HD video but this Ladybug video was a first attempt shot with the 5D Mark II and landed the guy a job with the company listed at the end. I understand Saturday Night Live is now using 5D Mark II to video the opening of the show.
