You've signed on to the birther lunatic fringe paranoia in one sentence and called us ignorami in the next?

Wow. Just... wow.

Almost... Beer Store is owned by the Brewers (used to be called Brewer's Retail). ETA: Labatt, Molson and Sleeman to be precise.

But, other additions:
Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp
I think parts of the Hydro companies
Enersource (owned partially by Mississauga).

Why did I think the Beer Store? I remember Brewer's Retail. I always thought LCBO would follow suit and come up with something better...

I'm pretty sure most of us know at least that! ;) I referenced Europe only to include its nations as part of the "west"

Yes, Frisca, you did, but in Scalvert's post he made it sound like it was one.

Nobody was saying the U.S. is a socialist country. Most economists consider the U.S. system a mixed economy.

"Keep your government hands off my B&H..."

I'm thinking of splicing together some FLIP video of B&H together with that speech Obama made in Cairo. Lot's of quick cuts of him speaking some Arabic against images of the Jews peacefully doing their business...some German music in the background for xtra effect. A FOX winner.

I still want to know how a man born in a US state gets to be a "foreigner". I'm sorry Mick, but you have yet to show any signs of intelligent life.

Also, i don't think anyone who ought to read my original post, actually has. Cowboy1977, I'm looking at you! (I'm not entirely whether Mick tried or not..)

For the record...the Teabaggers, Republicans as well as Democrats have done their fair share of electing officials that have taken power away from the people and put it squarely in the hands of big business. You might not want to acknowledge that or admit it BUT the party of Big Business is mostly at the root of this. It's their platform that led to our current state of affairs...and there's no way around that.

Keep in mind Senator Phil Gramm, John McCain's Chief Economic Advisor (before he went to Caryl Fiorina...another pearl) was probably the chief architect of ALL the deregulation that led to the building and growth of these monstrous "to big to fail" conglomerates that we can NO LONGER CONTROL. He for example, created the "Enron loophole" and a number of other things that led to our demise and made it so Financial Advisors are NOT obligated to look after their clients best interest...Ergo Goldman Sachs, where nobody did anything wrong OR where they were legally allowed to sell products that benefited themselves, some clients and screwed others royally. No conflict whatsoever....according to the law.

Dereg and letting the free markets take care of us has proven disastrous and that has been Conservative policy as far back as I can remember. Now we can't get out of it...because we also have the Best Government Money Can Buy.

The US government doesn't own squat. 'We The People' own everything the government thinks it owns. The government may have control of certain things, control which was taken with or without the people's consent, but it doesn't own anything.

IMHO, that's one of the biggest problems with government in the US today. A lot of greedy power-hungry politicians and bureaucrats think they own everything and can do whatever the hell they wish. However, it's only the apathy of the majority of Americans that lets them get away with their schemes and agendas. If enough Americans get together and decide something has to change, then it will be changed. We could even replace that foreigner schmuck currently in the oval office.

BTW, America is not a socialist country, no matter what you pathetic liberal ignorami may wish.

Not entirely but it's coming and you can't do crap about it Mick. As your country gets bigger and bigger population wise, your government will have little choice but to embrace socialized programs for the good of your country and its people, including yourself. You see, not everybody will start a business or go to school to learn a profession that'll make them rich. Will you feed the masses poor Mick? If so, how?

Ignorami? lol

Here's one for you Mick. Ignoramicus extremicus. Definition; Someone who is so stupid, foul, and uninformed they are practically their own species. Better find a mate fast because you're going to be extinct in not too long.

Love this remark, particularly the portion I just now put in bold. The inference is so subtle... but still really, really funny.

Obama is a socialist - Fox

I realize that Fox is a three (I mean 4) letter word around here, and that the intellectuals here despise its existance (at least that is how it reads from several posts). However, the news from MSNBC is apalling - with some of the same critics of Fox agreeing with MSNBC. Funny actually. CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, all have their "opinion" programs - just like Fox. What is illuminating is what is passed as news during their Hard News programs. To single out Fox is disengenuous at best.

The plot of the movie, "The seventh sense", revolves around a disturbed boy who tells his counselor, "I see dumb people... and they don't even know they're dumb."

Thanks for the link. Motivated reasoning has been aggravatingly common in the forums, and now I know the correct term for it! The so-called "birther" debate is a great example of this. Despite a court-verified birth certificate and notices published in Hawaiian newspapers back in 1961, the most fervent detractors continue to question the president's citizenship. The nuttiest part is that because his mother was a U.S. citizen from birth, he would still be considered a natural-born American whether he was born in Arkansas or Antarctica. :-/

And Bill O'Reilly has repeatedly stated that the birthers are mistaken. His team independently verified it and it is a done issue as far as he is concerned. He challenges any bither on his show who tries to bring it up.

Also - this article demonstrates why some would be better informed if they watched Fox. It is sad when a congressman's defense is the "media didn't cover it". That is funny.

And this one illustrates that accepting such bunk as truth just because you want to believe it is another example of motivated reasoning. Fox News actually sued for the right to lie in 2003 (and won). Hardly the stuff of objective journalism.

Your link seems like a nice fair minded venue towards conservatives and especially Fox. "We watch Fox so you don't have to"...ha ha ha. Reading the comments to your article link enlightened me on who the audience is. As I wrote above - good to know that only conservatives suffer from this disorder. Too funny.

Contrary to what Fox would have you believe, "fair and balanced" does not mean holding fact and fiction in equal regard. The Black Panther thing was a blatantly manufactured controversy designed to appeal to the paranoid idiots who listen to them.

No, not just conservatives... just like breast cancer doesn't afflict only women. However...

However what? Lamont Hill just claimed that the NAACP was not a racist organization. He defended Rev Wright on the grounds of Free Speech yet condemned the Tea Party as blatantly racist. I laugh at this.

Your reference to "paranoid idiots" who watch Fox is the true measure of your character. You need to look a bit more in the mirror.

I'm flattered, but that's a different kind of fox. Rawr! ;-P

The 'paranoid idiots' comments was in reference to people who repeatedly regurgitate misinformation from blogs, shock jocks and sensationalist tabloid news that is so easily debunked as false if they cared to check. Blaming Obama for a case that was dismissed before he took office or claiming he isn't a natural born American despite having an American mother and producing a court-verified birth certificate is staggeringly idiotic. It's the same biased denial of plain fact explained in the earlier article as "motivated reasoning." Limbaugh, Beck, Fox News and others exploit this psychological effect to enrich themselves off the delusions of the uninformed, and in the process destabilize what is supposed to be the UNITED States far more than any terrorist or failed bank.
