anything that beats my average is a win ;)

The only problem with that, though, is that your average always goes up. It's like a pyramid scheme. It can't be sustained.
Instead if you could get in the range of your average +/- the standard deviation of your scores, assuming they're normally distributed, you'd be doing well.

Wait a minute, all economy systems work this way. So the economic growth is a pyramid scheme? Hmmm..., I'm pretending to be surprised.

You are forgetting the second pyramid called 'inflation', and a third one called 'national debt'. Put them all together, and you get the real sense;-)

As for the scores, I barely made it to 5.0, but am sure will fall back down again!

plus a FAV!

i'm not complaining, but the voting seems to be on the lower side the past few challenges, based also on what scores got a photo into the top 10

hmmm....

It's the economy. People are stressed out at work and at home, and DPC seems like a easy place to put steam out;-)

Back above a 5 but man, I really thought I had a high 5 or low 6 shot this time. Hmmm... Oh well, live, learn and try again.

I'm really disappointed with this, looks like the purists are out in force on this one. I'm sure I got PLENTY of DNMC 1's...that's what I get for doing something that I haven't seen on DPC yet.

And you think it did meet the challenge I take it?
Interesting. I'll check out your entry next week.

I think it meets the challenge, or I wouldn't have entered it. It seems pretty self-explainatory to me (emphasis mine):
Long exposures can often create very dramatic effects in photography. Use a longer than normal exposure to create the impact of your image.
"Longer than normal," what is normal? My feeling is that "normal" is whatever shutter speed you would typically use to properly expose and freeze an image. Obviously, this can vary depending on what combination of aperture and ISO one selects, but the "dramatic effect" portion of the challenge description is why I feel that my entry is valid. If I used a "normal" shutter speed, my subject would have been frozen and would not have a feeling of motion; thus, I would not have created in "impact."

Taking it one step further, a "normal exposure" for a subject in a dark location without strobes or other lighting is going to be 1 second and beyond, but that is a NORMAL exposure for that subject under those conditions, and may NOT "create the impact of [the] image."

Could I have taken a picture of moving clouds, running water, or vehicle lights and been SURE to "meet" the challenge? Sure. But I've already proven that I can do that, so it's not a CHALLENGE. Oh well, the beatings will continue until morale improves. Carry on...

And as I was complaining, I got hooked up a few more times. Still no comments telling me why this is apparently so terrible (no big shock there though).

4.94's higher than my current highest score. I must be really terrible.

Two comments. One of them just states the score, the other is a two word-er. Still appreciated. Please keep them coming:-)
